  • Re: US Junior Team cuts

The fact that there are 10 CHL related players on this roster should finally put to rest the notion that Moore was cut simply because he played in that league.

I think this may be the most CHL players ever on a U.S. world junior team.

      Um...right.

What is your logic? Your gut hunch over that of 30 NHL General Managers?
Reviews are still glowing. Its not a John Moore thing, drop him out if it. It was just an example of team Canda vs team USA. D 1 vs Major junior....
      A) This wasn't my argument. I have no opinion on Moore. You're the one using the draft as part of your argument, then saying others can't use the draft.
      B) You're the one who brought Moore into it.

I have a hard time with everybody piling on Ramage when he's a +12 this season on a team with a top 10 SoS. This guy cleans up tons of Brendan Smith messes. If you've watched any Badger hockey this year you wouldn't be so down on his selection.

I wouldn't say, "everybody [is] piling on Ramage", there were actually only two posters that suggested John didn't belong on this team before named others - one of them just happened to repeat himself multiple times. I happen to agree with you that Ramage has been a solid player for the Badgers. Opposing teams very rarely score when he is on the ice, and isn't that the primary reason why a defenseman is in the game?

I didn't mean any personal slight towards Ramage. I was actually very impressed by his play in the two games I saw him play (against UNH). However, I believe (perhaps I'm biased because I saw him at Minnetonka but I doubt you'd disagree) that Gardiner is further ahead of him at this point. Carlson and Fowler are quite obviously the two best available d-men. Moore, Warso and Donovan, by all accounts and statistics, are also better. So there are six guys right there who are ahead of Ramage, and I believe they are all similar type players. I wouldn't mind seeing the final spot going to Nicastro who has an element of his game that can clearly benefit the US team-he can hit. This team will need a guy to physically stand up to the Canadians if they are to have any chance in this tournament.

USA hockey is all about politics. Biggest farce in the country. The chances of Hines not ensuring that the natl devl kids were included is zero. just like Rolston last year and we all know what a great job that moron did. Both should have been fired by now. A program in complete chaos with out of control political kids. Biggest waste of money in the country, hockey wise.

Ramage will be fine and will play his role.

He should not in any way be on the team over either Moore or Nicastro. Stick the kids on the ice with no names associated and with no political hacks manipulating the selections and Moore and Nicastro would be there. That being said, its not the kids fault and he will play his role and be fine. It is though a shame that US hockey has become what it is today. they couldn't even launch the ADM without 100% screwing it up and changing the vision 47 times, none of which bettered the kids.,

Honestly, I can't see what's wrong with picking a lot of players from the U-18 team for this tournament. Let's first consider that it's a very intensive program. Then, let's see how the team did last year. Didn't they win a major international tournament?

OK, now time for the other sources for players. College, well, most of the players are from Canada (at least in the ECAC this is true, I don't know about the other leagues). The rest are in USHL juniors, or American players playing the Canadian Junior leagues. Not necessarily guarantees there, but that's why they wittle it down.

Now, let's consider team chemistry. Sure you could have 12 Mark Johnson all-star forwards on your team, but unless they have someone that fits their style in getting the puck in the net on that line, the player has no chance.

Why pick a bunch of USNDT? They've got a certain chemistry that allows them to be successful, especially this year. This is probably why you'll also see a lot of them on the same lines.

I see nothing wrong with USA Hockey being preferential towards players that have played in their own programs, especially the USNDT. Canada is certainly preferential towards players that play in the CHL.

Secondly, politics always exist in all elite sports organizations´in all countries. To think otherwise is naive. Canada has them. Russia has them. Sweden has them, and so does the USA.

US natl team has had the worst 3 year run in the programs history with so many off ice problems it is a total disgrace. Look at the problems already this year. kids being kicked off etc.

We looked like dopes last year and can only hope we dont have a repeat performance. Go USA!

Regardless, Canada is loaded, and that isn't even their best kids. There are like 7-8 other kids that would have been eligible for the WJT if they weren't in the NHL already.

I hope our kids put on a solid effort and maybe they'll medal.

                                Yes I am.

But have seen enough of the rpogram to know it is a farce and is still around because you have a hnadfull of political hacks who dont dare eliminate it. And why?? Because they would be out of a plush job.

Think about it for a second. You have little kids funding a 4 million dollar+/- a year program to benefit 40 kids.

You would be shocked to see how much of the budget goes towards administrative costs and salaries. Why would they get rid of it?

                                Its a political hacks dream

I heard one of the mothers bragging about how many kids get D 1 deals out of it. First off, who cares. Second off, that is not the goal. It is to develop NHL/Olympic players. Tell me Patrick Kane needed the dev program.
