Re: 2014-2015 Quinnipiac Bobcats: "I hear Boston is nice in April"
Was able to watch most of tonight's game ... some thoughts ...
You can tell this team has a lot of underclassmen. Some guys that, I thought, didn't have enough compete level in the corners and along the walls. I can't remember a whole lot of 50-50 battles Quinnipiac won, can probably count them on one hand. Frankly, if the Bobcats get into the dirty areas and take care of those little details a little more, they aren't in that situation late in the third period. Have to win the battles along the walls, that's where hockey is won and lost.
C. Clifton made a hell of a wall in front of Lawrence on that second goal -- really bad job by him, the goalie had no chance to see that puck.
Like last year, this team has a lot of skill. Question is, can they put it all together by March? With the glut of freshmen and sophomores, they're going to have to learn how to play college hockey quick, because there were clearly a few situations where the young guys thought they could (a) skate through someone and (b) shy away from contact. That stuff doesn't fly, but you have to give freshmen the benefit of the doubt and let them battle through some of the issues. Ultimately, I think and hope they'll be fine. One things for sure, this class is going to be awfully good for this team. A freshman skating on the top line? Very impressive.
