I was messing with RPI formulas trying to attach them to baseball. Is it normal for the RPI to be greater than 1 when you get in to 100s of games (e.g., 18.1239)?

uhh... hmm... probably not... I'd want to see what the bonus point stuff is doing.

Is it possible that with the large number of games that you are using, you are having problems due to loss of precision in the calculations?

not with modern computers... its either an error in his program or an inherent issue in the formula. RPI isn't iterative enough to get floating point issues.

I figured it out. I was missing a negative symbol for some losses.

Is it possible, at all, that today's B1G games would eliminate all 80 situations in which St. Cloud would be left out?

Nope. SCSU's highly unlikely missing scenario is dependent on two things: ranked teams SCSU defeated in the regular season doing horribly this weekend, and conference tournaments going to teams that wouldn't get auto bids. None of today's teams fall into the former, and today's games will only decide which of the Big Ten teams have an opportunity to play spoiler in that one conference tournament for the latter.

Tomorrow's games could do it, though, when SCSU only needs a decent performance out of Union, Minnesota State, North Dakota, Colgate, and Western Michigan.

This looks fantastic !!!!! How is it that you can come with sensible brackets, following the rules, and USCHO can only come up with crap. These are nicely balanced regions, Nice Job !!!

Can you tell me your reasoning for why St. Cloud may or may not be in St. Paul? I'd love to attend if they get placed there.

so if Michigan loses, they're done?

Even with a loss UM is in on nearly a quarter of the possible outcomes. They definitely will want their game to be one of the few upsets though.

well nearly a quarter isn't very good for them either should they lose
