Wow. Sounds they were great guys as well as terrific players.

Thanks for reminding me of Tim Burke. You were always in good shape when he was on the ice.

    Oh yes... street hockey!

      Word of the day: expectorate

I used to stand by the fence often. Saw Joe Rando get nailed by a slappah in the face while watching there. No facemask. Horrific hit. Next time i saw him he had a huge scar.

That's a pretty hilarious story about Bertagna snives. gotta love her passion

I tell you Snively, Paul aka PP, taught Langway a lot! Remember that Rod was a football scholarship...so PP worked with him after practice, of course Rod was the one who worked his butt off...PP's talent was his hockey knowledge and skating ability....even at 50 something he can wheel around on the ice and not get caught out if position. As for Tim Burke, he is currently the Director of scouting for San Jose....if you ever watch the draft, he usually announces their picks...Burke has the best hockey mind I know...the guy someday will be a GM if he wants!
For you youngsters, you can see these guys above the doors walking into the Whitt...besides Langway being a 2 time Norris Trophy winner with a ring or two....we might not have a NC but we set a pretty good standard....

Just a reminder, $10 student tickets & free bus to Manchester only available until noon tomorrow, then it becomes $35 per day with no transportation. Get them online ( https://www.events.unh.edu/Registrat...event_id=14581 ) or at the box office before they are gone!

Both WCHA programs have FAR superior post-season histories than their respective HE opponents.
The UML/WI game could be one for the ages between two solid teams carrying momentum. I'm picking UML.

In the second game my heart says UNH, but my head says with both teams needing the game equally, the 'cats can't find enough to win. Story of the second half of the season. Hope I'm wrong.

Doubtful the 'Cats will be scoring 5-6 goals a game, Desmith needs to carry the load, which we all know he can.

The closure of the New England Center was just a few years ago, maybe 2010? The bar was a great place to catch a drink and a bite to eat pre-game.
Apparently single-game tickets not yet available; anyone want to guess when they will be available, presumably at $35 each?

Someone can feel free to correct me if I am wrong as this is only from memory, but believe the NCAA requires them to be sold as a package until the day before game day. If this is correct tickets for individual games should go on sale Thursday.

Not to nitpick (and continue to wildly stray off topic) but I.M. Pei didn't design the NEC. It was designed by William Pereira (who was no slouch himself).

Honest question to UNH fans, I saw DeSmith end of last season/fall of this season and he looked unbeatable. There were other issues besides him, but he was giving up rebounds, not covering the short side this January/February. Am I wrong in thinking he's partially for blame for the second half letdown? His numbers still respectable, but no where near first half. Certainly other issues, but he was one...Any reasoning for UNH fans who saw more of him than I did which was 5 games in person.

You're not nitpicking. Thanks for the correction. I was told many years ago by a person I trusted that it was Pei and never verified it. You're right though. I did some digging and could only come with this; http://www.hotelplanner.com/Hotels/9...ford-Ave-03824.

The point is, there is institutional knowledge within a program that goes far beyond how the current cast of players stack up against past teams and their players. A lot of it lies with coaches, some of it lies with returning upperclassmen. All bring their past experiences with them. Wisconsin and Denver have won D-1 titles in the not too distant past, obviously not with the same players, but in large part due to coaching staffs that remain intact from the years when they took the big trophy. It's how teams prepare for/know what to expect as the postseason plays out. It's why "newbies" usually don't come out of the woodwork and win the big trophies first time (or second time) out of the chute, and why there's often a "same old same old" look to the Frozen Four. Success breeds success.

At least Lowell got there last season (AND won a game), so I give them a better chance than UNH at advancing out of the Regionals. It's why I'm just happy UNH gets to play this weekend - to give the young players the experience of a big postseason game (which BTW they haven't experienced in the league tourney since missing the HE Semis two years running now). Sad to say, but after being a postseason "fixture" at the Garden and in the NCAA's for the better part of a decade-and-a-half, UNH hasn't been able to bank on participating in those tourneys lately, and that is NOT going to do them any good come this weekend. And while the Lowell program is clearly on the rise, they are still "newbies" to this postseason thing TBH, and although I have all the time in the world for what Coach Bazin has accomplished, there will probably be a few more bumps in their learning curve in the near future. Look at Merrimack, their upturn in recent years, and a slight fall-back this year. Not looking to rain on anyone's parade here, but this is just how I see things. Winning doesn't happen by accident. JMHO.
