Alright, now that the craziness that was the NCAA Tournament is over, I thought I would post an update for this thread. I won't be doing any updates today, as I'm going to be spending the bulk of my time over the next couple of days entering data for the Greatest Programs thread. That means that starting NEXT THURSDAY, I will get back to doing updates on a regular basis. My hope is that I can get at least 1-2 done each week, and perhaps a 3rd or 4th done if time permits. I'd still like to have the Round of 64 done by the end of May...but we'll see. The ultimate goal is still to have the tournament finish up by the end of the year...hopefully by Thanksgiving.

The 1986-1987 North Dakota Fighting Sioux took on the 2003-2004 Maine Black Bears in a goal fest this afternoon. The game went back and forth, and was a true nail biter up until the last handful of minutes or so.

      Here's the recap...

      http://www.collegehockeyweekly.com/1...ack-Bears.html

I'm hoping to have some time tomorrow to post the proposed schedule for the remaining games in the Round of 64. Also, while time didn't permit it today, I'm hopeful to provide more of a recap in this thread for the upcoming games. I was more concerned about making sure to get at least one game done today to try to keep up somewhat with the games. As I mentioned before, I am planning on getting at least 1 game done each week, and more when time permits. However, I think a schedule would be a good idea for those who are more interested in one game over the others.

I'm looking forward to Midwest Regional #21. Two teams that came so close.

It should be a good one. The 2010-2011 North Dakota team was probably the most complete team that North Dakota has had in the past decade. They had balanced, high-end scoring, excellent defense, and great goaltending. Unfortunately, they ran into a brick wall against Michigan. Had they won the title, they probably would have been a top 15 team of all-time, and might have challenged for a top 10 spot.

As for the 2000-2001 Sioux squad, I thought they had great high-end scoring and great goaltending, but were a little sketchy on defense. This year's Boston College team actually reminded me of them a bit, especially offensively. Each team basically had one line, but man...that one line was great. Of course, BC's defense this year was a bit better than the '01 Sioux squad, but the '01 Sioux squad had much better goaltending.

Puck about ready to be dropped here in Manchester. Carly Rae Jepsen just gave a sterling performance of the National Anthem, and the crowd is still buzzing about it. I'll be back after the opening frame to give an update!

First Period is in the books. It was a pretty even opening twenty minutes, with a lot of play in the neutral zone. Neither side really wanted to give up much ground. BC had a great opportunity early, but Bob Southwood made a great glove save on Johnny Gaudreau. CC then capitalized just moments after a powerplay ended when Bob McCusker ripped a wrist shot over Parker Milner's blocker to put CC up 1-0 about midway through the period. CC then dominated play the rest of the way in the first, but were unable to gain the two goal advantage. After twenty minutes of play, it's 1-0 Colorado College.

Second period just ended, and it was a heartstopping period of action! The Eagles finally broke through about four minutes into the second period when Bill Arnold unleashed a bullet of a wrist shot that beat the Tiger goal high to the glove side to knot the score at one. It would only take about three more minutes for Arnold to find the net again, when he tipped in Patch Alber's slapper from the point. The goal gave BC a 2-1 lead, and they nearly took a 3-1 lead, but Barry Almeida's one-timer from the bottom of the near circle hit the crossbar. The Tigers then started to take control of the play, and with just under five minutes to play in the second, Harley Patterson slammed home a rebound to tie the game back up at 2 apiece. That would be how the second ended, and with just twenty minutes remaining, CC and BC are all square at 2-2.

What a finish! The third was relatively uneventful until about midway through the period when CC and BC traded goals about 4 minutes apart. The teams each had chances to go ahead late, and BC hit the crossbar with under thirty seconds left. The game went to overtime, where it just finished up.
