Why is it tolerated for hockey?

It is time to clean up the game.

Want to fight? First offense - 5 game suspension. Second offense - season-long suspension.

Checking from behind or intent to injure? First offense - 5 game suspension or twice as long as the injured player is unable to play, whichever is longer. Second offense - season-long suspension.

Start penalizing the tom-foolery that happens after nearly every whistle when the goaltender freezes the puck.

As a Sioux fan, it is inexcusable what happened to Bina a few years ago, to LaPoint after that and now Genoway. And that is just my team.
I went out to The Ralph for the BC series 6-7 years ago. The Sioux were short a player who had a game DQ for fighting in the previous game. I was appalled to see the fight shown on the big screen 3-4 times during the game and the fans cheering each time.

I say, clean up your own house first and the rest of the world will take care of itself.

There's a difference between two guys agreeing to a fight, and one guy loading up and cross-checking another guy's head into the glass, from behind.

            Nice try, though.

I also think we need to get rid of the sense of entitlement and arrogance that is in college hockey. It makes other teams feel really bad about themselves.

1.) During the introductions, the home team must bow when each of the visiting players name is read.

2.) Home team players will host visiting team by sharing living quarters, girlfriends, and pajamas with them

3.) During the new time-outs the league (WCHA) has at 15, 10 and 5 minutes, tea and crumpets will be served by tuxedo-wearing staff at the benches

4.) When your opponent scores, your team will gently place their sticks on the ice and join in the applause with the crowd. On-ice players will also be required to personally congratulate the scoring player and the assisting player(s with a big sincere hug.

5.) The handshake line will be changed to a group-hug at center ice.

6.) Winning teams will be required to send cards to their opponent first thing Monday morning apologizing for beating them.

7.) All teams on the ice will be required to give stick salutes to the 'fine' staff of refs after each game, commending them for another awesome performance.

8.) All coaches will be limited in their responses to the press. Allowed response will read: "We are pleased with the outcome, the refs, and the league. We couldnt be happier."

9.) All players accepting positions on a NCAA hockey team will have a small rubber band applied to their scrotum prior to their first practice. The rubber band will remove the testicles of the players, thus removing the testosterone and aggression shown in years past.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? YES, THE INTENTIONAL BONE-HEAD PLAYS NEED TO BE PENALIZED, BUT THE REFORMS YOU ARE PROPOSING WILL KILL HOCKEY. TOUGHEN UP BUTTERCUP!!! HIKE UP YOUR SKIRT AND GET BACK IN THE GAME!!!

                            Re: Clean Up College Hockey!

At the (certain) risk of being scorned, I do think they should clamp down on the extra-curricular activity after puck freezings. The shenanigans now are so predictable it's ridiculous. Frankly, I think it's just used as an opportunity to start a fight.

Start with a very low tolerance for players hacking at the goalie after the whistle. That should attenuate the need to "protect" your goalie. Then, when a defender does come in and attack the offensive guy, which happens virtually every time whether warranted or not, he gets 2min. No latitude. When the offensive guy retaliates, he gets two and the original defender gets another 2 (total of 4) unless he rolls up in a fetal position and refuses to continue the pushing and shoving.

                            Fire away.

                              Re: Clean Up College Hockey!

It's funny this thread was started...this letter was in today's Wi State Urinal's opinion page.

Why is fighting an accepted and expected part of college hockey when it is not accepted in other college sports? Last Friday's UW hockey game against Alaska-Anchorage was loaded with fighting. After watching it, I decided not to watch the Saturday night game.
I have been involved with youth hockey for a long time, (back when I played )and it continues to grow as a youth and high school sport. The fighting adds nothing to the game, but is a distraction and a negative influence on young players as it teaches the wrong behaviors.
If players were removed from the game for fighting or punished with more penalty time, fighting could be reduced. Throw a punch in a college or pro football or basketball game and you could be removed. The NCAA needs to take action to eliminate fighting as an expected and accepted part of college hockey.
                              - Monte Hottmann, Dodgeville

Mr Hottmann? Oh really. . I don't think the game was "loaded with fighting". UAA was ******ed and frustrated and took a few punches, but all out fighting? See ya Mr Hottmann.

Yeah, Friday's game wasn't chippy. There were a ton of penalties but I attribute that to the (rookie?) refs calling a horrible game.
