Black Bears stocking up for the future
    By Nathan Fournier

The University of Maine men’s ice hockey team has picked up their third 1998 birth year commitment in a month.

Simon Butala, a defenseman from Downingtown, PA., who currently suits up for the Long Island Gulls U16 team that plays in the Atlantic Youth Hockey League’s National U16 league, verbally committed to the school on Monday for the 2016-‘17 or 2017-‘18 season. Fellow defenseman Konstantin Chernyuk committed on Jan. 24 and forward A.J. Droblet committed on Jan. 14.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Butala has five goals and nine assists in 26 games this season.

Really appears that Maine is getting much better talent these days... Definitely moving in the right direction.

Anyone notice his coach comments about how Red will make him a great player? When was the last time a junior coach said that about Whitehead?
