The Cats have a few things to work on this week, before playing UNO. Confidence building, developing additional scorers, working on pp/pk abilities, and knowing they are the hardest working D1 hockey program. Pride and Proud to be a Wildcat on or off the ice.

It will be interesting to see how this team can possibly turn this early season into an even better season by taking UNO seriously, give 110% and 60 minutes of physical hockey. Focus on one game at a time and things shall come into play.

Safe travels to all of you attending the games...

    LETS GO CATS!!!!

If NMU keeps their focus and continues working hard these next couple of weeks will offer rewards. UNO, Alaska and MSU are all Top 12 schools at the moment and what better way to prove yourself than against the perceived best. Granted, I don't fall into the category who believes NMU to be the lesser opponent when these teams square off but the superior!!!

That being said, UNO has been a team that finishes games strong early on in the season. NMU will have to play 60 minutes of hockey and put pressure on UNO and take advantage of miscues. In fact, under Dean Blais, UNO has tried opening up their offense more than in recent years and this could lend to turnovers and many odd man rushes for NMU. They NEED to capitalize on them and then a sweep will be at hand.

NMU is 0-3-1 at home this season and that is just plain bothering me beyond belief. Once the Cats learn to win at home (cannot believe I'm stating this) the confidence will return and we will see just how complete this team can be. In all of my years watching NMU hockey and most recently at The Berry Events Center, it kills me how badly our team has played on given weekends at home in the last couple of seasons. I hope this changes soon.

Two very good road trips for the Cats. I think this weekend they will stay hot and get at least 4 points. I'm wondering what the goalie situation will look like for the weekend now that it seems Stewart might have found his groove.

    Update on plans for weekend.

I checked into shipping some steaks to Marquette for the tailgate on Saturday. A bit costly to send said Nebraska Beef to the edge of Gitchigoomie. Because I am fully committed to said tailgate, the only other viable solution I can see is....

    Steaks on a Plane!

I'll bring a can of Fancy Feast for the Cat fans.

That's correct. The following night he used Bateman's stick to scrape the fish goo and blood off of the ice. In total I've chucked 4 fish onto the ice at the Berry, and have never been kicked out for a single one. Even though one evil blue haired female member of the blue line club insisted I be removed for ruining a perfectly good hockey game by throwing a fish on the ice.

It makes me quite sad that I'll be missing this. Someone better throw a fish on the ice. Remember, if a smoked herring is used you must create a splint and use hockey tape to secure it making sure to alternate between black and white so it appears to be a ref.

UNO vs. NMU week...my favorite time of the year. It is with great sadness that UNO ventures to a snowless Marquette in an attempt to once again spoil the party which always happens when these two fine D2 schools meet.

The only thing known for certain is we'll enjoy two very close hockey games, fish will be thrown and shots of jagermeister consumed!!! Such has been the case in this relatively short but oddly enough...friendly rivalry.

    Interesting stats in this series:
Since 99-2000 season the series is an even split at 13-13-2.

NMU has an edge in the playoffs at 3-2.

There has only been one shutout in the history of this series (the 1st game ever played).

UNO's longest win streaks stand at 4 games and 3 games while NMU has had three separate 3 game winning streaks since 99-2000.

NMU leads 6-5-2 in one goal games.

More to come later on past highlights...some which are a bit foggy...
