My guess is Gopherbigguy only watches the Gophers and hasn't watched any other teams play, if he were to watch other teams play he would see this is pretty normal. (yes even for BC, Denver and NoDak)
And it also underscores the value of some guys, usually grinders, who rarely take a shift off. They serve as a reminder that you can always hustle, and they have a value that goes beyond stats. That's a cliche' statement, I know, but it's still underappreciated sometimes.

That, and hard workers can go a long way to inspire talent on your own team to work hard. Never-stop Grinders are not valuable only for what they do on the ice. They bring character that rubs off on the guys who just never had to bust their arses every minute to get on the ice.

            See: tDon2 and Serratore.
Never really developed a taste for tequila. Kind of hard to understand how you make a drink out of something that sharp, inhospitable. Now, bourbon is easy to understand.

I don't think people are expecting every single player to give 100% on every shift, but what people are commenting about, is times when most of the players on the ice are not giving 100% at the same time. This team last year had games where they pretty much out-hustled the opponent for most of an entire game. It was usually on a Saturday. It wasn't both nights. But they were able to do it at times. But this year, other than maybe Mich St., you'd be hard-pressed to find a game where they gave that sort of effort as a team.

And it is a contradiction to say you can't expect a college kid to play hard the whole game. Then say that what makes a grinder special is that he does just that. (I realize this is a couple different posters, but it seems to be the general theme of the thread of comments.)

If they are playing as hard as can be expected by a 'bunch of kids', what are we to expect of this team when they start playing top teams? Herb Brooks didn't win as much as he did by figuring they are only kids so should be allowed to take a shift off from time to time.

The nice thing about Reilly and or Skjei being gone (temporary of course) is we can go back to our D pairings from last year when we had solid D play and quit with the D playing forward experiment.
Reilly is almost scary good as a Freshman at times. As his confidence has improved, he has really made progress in one year. If by some miracle he sticks around a couple more and continues to improve at this rate, he could be phenomenal.

And aren't there only 2 D who will be cut from WJC? Which means even with his inconsistent play as of late, Skjei still has a decent chance of playing. And US will need all they can get, as there will be some Canucks who would have jumped to the Pro's, if the Pro's were playing, so will now play Juniors.
