IT is going to be hard to come up with 3 scoring lines. Linell is the biggest offensive threat on the 3rd line and while i think the 2nd line would benefit from switching him and Straight that would not solve the 3rd line scoring problem. Smith and Sit while good defensively just don't seem to have any offensive ability. They do work hard and hopefully over time will improve. York obviously has confidence in them because they are an integral part of the pk and Smith did a good job of killing off the 5-3. With Linell's speed they should just get him the puck on the wing and let him go and try and score. Hayes and Arnold were great tonight . Matheson is improving every game as is Doherty. The team is taking too many penalties and if it continues they will have a difficult time winning.

No matter how you slice it, it just seems that they are that one talented forward away from being able to at least try to assemble three effective scoring lines. I think you could work Linell and possibly Silk into the mix, but none of those other 4 or 5 guys got it when it comes to producing offense.

        Let's see... 4-1-0 record, 3.20 goals/gm, allow 2.0 goal/gm, 35% power play efficiency.
And some of you want to blow that up?

You just don't take the best line in college hockey and blow it up.
How about we have a 3 goalie rotation? Milner with a .936 sv% and 1.98 gaa, but the others aren't contributing. Does that worry you?

The top line may not be touched, but nothing is off limits for lines 2 through 4. Coach York has often used this run up to February to work on different line combinations to see what he has, and I have no doubt he will do the same again this season. There will be a cold spell that will happen and that will facilitate the changes. The season is too long for there not to be one.

I think with certain games, York can experiment. Like with Maine struggling, I can see them doing that but not against a good team like BU.

Right now, you leave things as is. If things go stale (as they probably will over the course of a long season), I won't mind seeing the top six spread across three lines if that's what it comes to. I think everyone agrees on this team--not deep, but top heavy with talent. Milner, three experienced anchors on D and a great top six is more than a lot of teams out there have.

For now, just need lines three and four to not be negatives out there. Play hard, play smart...do your job. This team is in a good spot right now.

To try and compensate for a lack of offense from lines three and four, the skills of Doherty and Matheson are a huge plus for this team. Matheson got all the publicity and we know about future dmen BC has in the fold, but is it just me or did Doherty fly completely under the radar?

One note on Matheson...he can skate, has skill and likes to play physical. The only challenge I see for him is finding that balance in the physicality department because he's already been called for five minors, most on the team. I'll take the physical play, but with HE refs, he'll need to cool it a bit out there defensively. Pretty sure I saw York call him over to the bench during a stoppage to echo that sentiment. If he can find that balance, the sky is the limit for him at the collegiate level.

Start Milner Friday and hopefully take care of business. If they win in Orono, any chance we see Billett Sunday afternoon against UMass?

I agree completely. Been around since the '90's to see Jerry's tendencies.
"When the cold spell happens..." Some are talking like the sky is falling right now. It's not, and in fact this team is improving with each game.

FWIW... biggest difference between today and Friday. The ice. The puck didn't travel five feet at Tsongas without bouncing all over the place. It was like an oven in there. Today, good ice. Better puck handling, better passing, better skating. Same result, more production.

To be perfectly honest, I would be CONCERNED if we didn't have a cold spell. We do it every year. Seems to benefit us long term somehow... *shrug*

The sky will be falling when BC drops this next game to Maine. Of course this is all part of York's plan to keep Timmay around. Won't be the first time!

Trivino has never been one of those players. Even outside of the rink, he'll say hi and is plenty of friendly, but has never been even close to saying or doing anything inappropriate.

No reason BC can't grab another 4 points next weekend. 6-1 would look real nice heading into a monster weekend against ND and BU.

                        4-1, can't complain.

The FR D have been very encouraging. Smart move by York pairing each with an upperclassman.

As touched on above, I'd leave the lines as is for now but the bottom 2 lines will need to start producing offensively. One thing, this team has a definite physical edge to it that it hasn't had the last couple of years.

I'd consider dropping Straight to the 3rd line with Linell and bringing Silk up from the 4th line to give you 3 fairly competent offensive players that should be able to put up some points. You'd then slide either Sit or Quinn in alongside Arnold and Hayes, who themselves can pretty much carry that 2nd line. So in the end, you'd probably be making the 2nd line a bit weaker, but would now have at least on paper a fairly talented 3rd line that should be able to score some goals.

Take a look at the +/- breakdown on this team. It's pretty amazing.

                              Sullivan -4
                              Dyroff, Brown -3

There's no way you break these lines up. The hope is that a defensive specialist line will develop within the bottom six forwards. The smith/linell line or the fourth line needs to develop into a gannon/greene type of line. Having a defensive forward line capable of defending top opposing lines, creates favorable match-ups throughout the line-up.

Just keep winning games and putting up league points. I'm sensing solid team chemistry already. Mullane, et al's, leadership should not be overlooked.
