Re: Northeastern 2012-2013 Season Thread: A New Hope
On the surface, it would seem to be a major mistake. He might have told Rawlings to pound sand, but you simply can't do that to a three year starter who hasn't really turned "Madore" and should be highly motivated to have a super senior season. Furthermore, as I understand it, Gillies indicated that he planned to stay in school for two years before moving into the pro ranks. It seems to me I've heard that song before. Still, if he had some success, he would be a short term solution. If he was a dud, we'd be stuck with him for four years.
Forced to make a choice, Madigan chose to go with the devil he knew - knowing that he had two other decent goalies as backups and for next season as well.

[QUOTE=steve66;5555787]PP under Cronin was awful and he had Vitale, Ginand, McNeely, and MaCloud. QUOTE]
His last two years the PP was actually a lot better; especially in the second half of 2010-2011. Also Vitale and McNeely played on the PP but we're clearly at their best 5 on 5. This current team has guys who should be PP specialists, mainly 79, 9 and 45. However, for the most part they've been terrible in every situation.2016 and 2019 HOCKEY EAST CHAMPIONS

Re: Northeastern 2012-2013 Season Thread: A New Hope
sigh.. okay, i'll go first.. it is time for Jim Madigan to do the right thing as soon as possible & recommend to the ADs office, a suitable Head Coach for the team for nxt (possibly even this) season. And yes, it is all about the coaching.. the better systems & practices.. the better player execution on ice. We have players playing way below potential. We have no team chemistry.. no passing, no strong side/ weak side systems in place. We have breakdown in discipline almost every gm (started from the UNH gm when our record was 2-0.. and we were up 3-1 on the Wildcats)...
..this all comes down on the coaching. Madigan does not know how to. He can perhaps play a future role in the selection of players (sincerely believe he loves NU hockey).. and i do believe he has a good eye for talent.. far as coaching at the D1 level.. sorry Mr Madigan, this is above your head..
tonight was the last straw for me. SLU was okay, but we made 'em to be an NHL team..
Madigan must go..
Sorry to my fellow Husky fans if i offend anybody.
Since we can't lock out college hockey.. perhaps we can lock out the Huskies until this is all sorted out.GO NU HOCKEY
Always bullish on the future.
We don't always win Hockey East or the Beanpot (#trilogy).. but when we do.. we are the Champions

Re: Northeastern 2012-2013 Season Thread: A New Hope
Nearly 23 years post graduation from NU and perhaps 350 games attended, I am at a loss for words, they are far worse then the individual sum of their collective parts. That ailment is usually 100% a coach's fault and until both Roby and Madigan are gone we will have to live with it. I blame Roby for taking a guy who was away form hockey for 20 years and naming him the coach. No fault to DM as he was a well liked Dean of Administration and the Physical Plant and a fair player on some pretty good teams, however let's face it, Administrator's are usually the guys who should be making sure the Auditorium has great acoustics, planting trees and flowers at gradulation and painting fences on campus.
Hockey East is arguably like the SEC of hockey, is it not? and to that extant, this is the guy we got after a national search?
I am sorry, but it's painful and sad and I am just depressed. I am away and watched on line where the graininess and refresh rates of my Dad’s like, Pentium 90 made it seem like I was watching from another dimension and I might has well have been.
Anyway, do you think we will win another game aside form Bentley? We might squeak a win against Vermont but <5 hockey east wins is a reality. Listen guys, we are going to have to suck it up and accept it because in order to have any chance to get to of this guy moved to greener pastures and away form behind the bench we are going to have to suck so bad, that he is hopefully only a 2 or 3 season experimental endeavor as with every embarrassing loss he realistically shovels another handful of dirt on his own grave.
This is not like Cronin’s 1st, 3 win and multiple tie season. He is lost. This team has raw tallent that is not being developed and that's very dangerous because any recruit worth his salt, wants to believe he has the goods and talent to make a paycheck playing somewhere, even if its just a year in f*ing Mannheim. What we now have is a goal tending controversy. Who in their right mind takes a 3 year starter and starts platooning goalies like this is the NHL. These are kids!
I have had lost coaches in my life, who s*u*c*k*d but in Jr’s and Midgets where you just skated bye the guy and looked for direction from an on ice leader with an C or an A on his jersey, but at this level, it‘s amazing to me. My nearly 80 year old father has been watching the home games on line form Florida looked at me and said, this looks like a coach who has lost his team or has no idea what he is doing, I said, Dad, I think it’s a bit of both.
Sadly, after watching tonight s press conference in which JM assigns blame and responsibility to everyone but himself and the cast of clowns he calls his assistants, I say, take a good hard look in the mirror pal, because here is a news flash not every human being has the ability to lead, to get the most form a man or a team simply because they have been ordained to do so by the powers that be, as it has nothing to do with if you ever even played the game or not it’s an intangible "x factor" of a personality and I am starting to suspect that you don’t have "it", whatever, "it" is!
Good God! If he mentions the words “compete level” in another post game interview as the root cause for the woes of is apathetic offence, spotty goal tending or lackluster D, I am going to puke.
If disappointment were people, I would be China.Last edited by RossiRules; 11-24-2012, 12:44 AM.

What Rossi said, we're doomed. Goalie-smoalie, you could have Thiessen back there and we'd still be sitting with the exact same record. Madigan MUST GO.Arenas Attended

Nice of all of you for picking up my talking points, just a year to late.
Hopefully someone over in the Athletic Department realizes this is not working and gets the walking papers ready prior to the last game of year, and hands it over the next day. And alumni who give also get in the ear of people who count.
When it comes down to it, people could deal with JM and losing if the team was TRYING. That is not the case here, and unless Santa comes with some kind of miracle, it is not going to happen.
JM took a team rising, a sure thing playoff team, even with the goalie being blah, and sunk it. That cannot be denied.DogHouse Graduate 2001

“Albie O’Connell works primarily with Harvard’s defensemen and special teams. In his first season with the Crimson, O'Connell directed the nation's top power-play unit, as the Crimson converted on 38 of 139 total chances (27.3%) and ranked eighth in combined special teams. Harvard's potent power play helped the squad advance to the ECAC Tournament finals. O’Connell took over as an assistant coach for the Crimson after three years at Northeastern. At Northeastern, O’Connell also served as recruiting coordinator and helped the Huskies post a 55-44-14 record after they went just 22-60-15 during the previous three years. He contributed to the squad reaching two Beanpot finals, two Hockey East semifinals and the 2009 NCAA tournament.”

Re: Northeastern 2012-2013 Season Thread: A New Hope
I'm still looking for all of this talent.
Guys just look at your senior class
Vermeersch 5 Points in 12 games 1 goal.
Vrolyk 4 points in 12 games
Ellement 1 point in 12 games. He is a d man so wil let that go.
Saponari 10 points in 12 games 3 goals
Juniors
Ferrero 6 points 12 games 1 goal
Pimm 5 points in 12 games 2 goals
You can't win when your upper classmen are ****.
Cody Ferriero has some talent, but he has done nothing here in 3 years, Pimm had a good first half last year then completly disappeared, nobody is going to say that Vermeersch is stud.
Come on guys, this team is no good, its strenght is at the lower classes. You have got to give him time and get better players in here. From what I hear next years class is strong. It takes time to rebuild.Husky Hockey heading to the top of the bottom!

Completely agree with you on many (not all) points, actually. I think this team has talent, but not quite as deep as my fellow fans have been claiming.
Vermeersch - I've had issues with his game since his freshman year. He strikes me as a bit greedy, and I think his -35ish over his career says enough.
Vrolyk - Definitely more of a role-player with some speed, but I've never imagined him to be a stud.
Ellement - What you said. Never imagined he was going to provide much offense.
Saponari - I enjoy watching him, for the most part, but being that he was advertised as a stud with experience, he has fallen a bit short of my expectations. His ONE move on breakaways is a bit tiring.
Saponari is really the only senior I trust, to be honest.
As for the juniors, I honestly think Pimm is very capable and talented. I can't begin to answer why he hasn't had more success than he has. As for Ferriero, I'm completely fed up with him. He showed so much promise before his injury last year, but I can't stand watching the complete lack of discipline. He's like a wannabe Joey Diamond in that regard. I have no idea what his brother is all about, but if he's anything like Cody I'll be a bit disappointed.
Not sure if your intentions were to troll or not, but do know that some of us are actually realistic as to what exactly we're working with.On Jamie Oleksiak:
