Wait I am violating my own rule! I can't talk about JD and BP here.

Back on topic. You did raise an interesting point about more players being attracted to college with the lockout. I think at most that will be marginal. It isn't like the lockout/strike has been going on for five years. OTOH, if the end result is that NHL salaries go down significantly, it could help college hockey for a while, but in the long run it will probably cause more players to pursue different sports.
One of the issues that was being discussed early in the CBA/NHL negotiations was lowering the age for CHL players to play in the AHL. Currently it's 20 whereas a player coming from the NCAA's it's 19. If the age were lowered for the CHL players (I'm sure the CHL owners wouldn't want this, for obvious reasons) would it be more enticing for a 17-18 year old to opt to Canada knowing he could start his pro career a year earlier then it currently stands. I've wondered if this was a factor in BP's decision to play NCAA for one year so he could be free to opt to the AHL at 19.
Brandon Pirri: Turk would give it to Jagr. That's awesome! Jagr's untouchable. And he would give it to Jagr.

It might have been for BP and also for other who take the college route, but then there are cases like JD that end up spending time in the OHL anyway.

I think going to the OHL was the last thing Jerry expected. IIRC, his Dad was pretty PO'd.

I agree, but it seemed last year to have helped him, although he might have ended up the same with a second year at RPI.

Agreed-i think a second year at RPI would have helped both JD and BP. I know whoever was advising them felt at the time the decision they made was correct but I just sense that their value coul dnot have decreased any with another year in Troy and perhaps even increased. As far as their respective chances for the NHL-who knows what this lockout is doing to that and the longer this goes on (and it does appear it will continue perahps for the entire season to be lost) it gets even more complicated.

I know the coaches will help him with that.
Correct-Melanson's experience at Delbarton is difficult to quantify-his biggest competition that he faced was almost never the opposition-it was getting ice time on his own team. Compared to the competition they played they were usually loaded. And many of the boys who have gone the ECAC route from there had very little problems adapting.

At this point I am not convinced that BP would have been better off if he had stayed. He seems to be progressing well.
