Sacred Heart at Bentley, 13 adn 14 November

Bentley and Sacred Heart only play each other twice again this year; last January Bentley split with a 6-5 OT loss and a 4-3 win in Milford. Sacred Heart comes to Watertown with 1 fewer AHA points, but two games in hand. Both teams have lots in common, and also some notable differences this season compared to last.

Bentley lost to graduation its top three scorers (Prewitt, Canozoneri, Gumaer), one of its top two D-men (Russell), and its top PK guy (Percella). Sacred Heart lost to graduation two of its top four top scorers (Trapp, Giosa), top D-man (Grimson), and primary goalie (Drew).

Both teams play in off-campus rinks, although I would rate the Milford Ice Pavilion a notch or two above the John A. Ryan Rink.

Sacred Heart has a new head coach (C.J. Marottolo), whereas Bentley has a new assistant coach (Ben Murphy).

So far this season, both teams have been splitting duties between goalies, although Frosh Steven Legatto has played almost double the minutes of junior Olivier St. Onge for Sacred Heart (279 vs 149). For Bentley, junior Joe Calvi has played 244 minutes in net, whereas sophomore Kyle Rank has played 180 minutes.

Bentley has received 12 points from four frosh, including 7 from Dan Koudys, who is tied with senior Marc Menzione for the lead. Sacred Heart has received 13 points from five frosh.

Sacred Heart has the best AHA OOC record so far this season (6-5 OT win over Union, 3-3 tie against St. Lawrence, and a 4-3 OT loss to RPI). Bentley has tough 3-2 losses to Northeastern and Quinnipiac (in OT).

Ok, no thoughts out there about these two games. Bentley picked up 3 points with 1-1 tie on Saturday, which I attended, along with perhaps 100 others. Nick Johnson scored on the PP midway through the first, and FR Joe Campanelli scored his third goal of the season a few seconds into the second, but Rank and St. Onge went almost 45 minutes the rest of the way to hold onto the tie. Bentley is now tied with Holy Cross for third in AHA, but has a game in hand.

I could not get back to Watertown in time for Bentley's 6-3 win in the Friday game, but 7 of the 9 goals were scored by special teams (4 PPs by Bentley along with a SH by Menzione; 2 PPs by Sacred Heart). Appears like this game was quite the opposite on the one on Saturday night.

Army visits Bentley for two this coming weekend; I will post something about these games on the Bentley season thread. Sacred Heart continues their brutal nine straight games on the road with a visit to AHA co-leader RIT. Bentley and Sacred Heart are essentially tied in the RPI by virtue of SH's win over Union last month, a rare OOC win for AHA teams this season. But, Bentley will get three more chances for an OOC win against Brown, RPI, and LSSU/Union winner in two weeks.
