He's from Cornell. He thinks teams should clutch, grab, and dive.

Contrary to what a mind-reading social climber from Solvay has proclaimed my opinions to be, I would like to see less dump and chase, fewer scrums along the boards, and a more skill-oriented (vs strength oriented) skating and passing game. I think that different rules, different enforcement of rules, and even wider rinks will encourage a better brand of college hockey.

I think the switch to cane sugar as opposed to beet sugar will encourage a better brand of Pop Tart frosting.

We disagree, but you get my point. You would like to see more Dave Schultz - type players and play. I would like to see more Wayne Gretzky - type players and play. Schultz and his type certainly popularized hockey in Philadelphia, and their style was a direct result of a change in rules enforcement. Gretzky probably did more to popularize hockey outside of Philadelphia, and different enforcement of rules probably spared him from suffering the repeated blows to the head and concussions for which you dis Crosby. I think we agree that rules and their enforcement do produce different styles of hockey.

To be fair, it was pretty common knowledge that there was one set of rules for Gretzky and a different set for everyone else. There was plenty of bruising and enforcing going on during his era - but not for him. I don't think today's skill players get the same deference, so they have to be able to mix it up along the boards as well as execute slick through the legs toe-drags. I can't quite come out in favor of inconsistent enforcement of the rules, even if it would lead to more personal enjoyment of watching those slick moves.
If you don't change the world today, how can it be any better tomorrow?

Kerry Fraser would know about that!

It's weird because I wouldn't use, "clutch and grab" as a common description for the current state of college hockey. I wonder how GPG and PMPG compare with the NHL.

But here again I think you're starting with false premise. This was brought up in the other, similar thread you started. Not long ago, college hockey fans were decrying the way hooking, holding, interference, and other obstruction offenses were not being called in the college game--the WCHA at least. Some physically smaller college stars left early, and fans thought they would fare better in the NHL because the game was more wide open there due to tighter enforcement of obstruction type rules. I don't have data to support this, but that was certainly the talk half a dozen years ago. If anything, people hoped the officiating in the NHL would lead to a similar trend in college and a more wide open game as a result.

Am I full of sh!!t? Good chance of it, but to suggest that the way the NHL is officiated with respect to obstruction offenses will or even could lead to more clutching and grabbing at the college level requires you to assume some conclusions that do not appear to be supported.

                        And there's the bear sh!!t problem . . .

Of course you're fine with different enforcement of rules. That's because you support a team that dives and gets away with it, while if any other team attempts to do the same thing, your large player goes down easily, Fat Mike throws a hissy fit, and the other team gets a major. This preferential treatment crud is exactly the problem with ANY level of hockey, or ANY sport for that matter.
