Baillen is good and should be on the all ECAC team. I have seen him play several times this year and to beat RPI he will have to be shut-down.

I will be at the games in section 19 where the dozen or so Brown fans have sat the last 3 years during the regular season. When we beat RPI in the playoffs in Brendan's first year, there were 50, including the crew from BC to see Voplatti, Pietrus play.

Ironically, on Saturday I'll be at Meehan during the Brown game- to watch my high school alma mater, La Salle, hopefully knock off Brendan Whittet's high school (Mount St. Charles).

Also, I just want to point out that this is by FAR the longest season thread we've ever had. I have to imagine a lot of that is due to the Roy saga, but still- we're clearly making some waves in the college hockey community. There have been various posters with no allegiance to Brown who have commented on this thread throughout the season, and that means the team has come a long way from a few years ago.

Let's hope the team continues playing long enough to start a second 2012/13 season thread!

So I know the conversation has gone to this level in regards to Anthony Borelli, but I want to show you why this season is the best season out of a Brown goalie since 2000, even better than Yann Danis:

Borelli this year is has a 1.74 and .945. He's done this with the following people playing in front of him: Matt Wahl, Dennis Robertson, Brandon Pfeil, Joey De Concilys, Richie Crowley, Greg Tang, Jake Goldberg, and a cavalcade of nothing.

Yann Danis had two years under 2.00 - he went 1.86 as a sophomore and 1.81 as a senior. His 1.86 season had a .938 and his 1.81 had a .942. Yann had Scott Ford and Paul Esdale in front of him, as well as Gerry Burke and, later, others The case can be made that Yann had a little bit better defense, even though that defense was playing under a Roger Grillo system. Also take into consideration that Yann played for three straight years and by his senior year had earned a reputation of being a big-game goalie. Borelli stepped into this year and hadn't played in almost 2 years. In terms of talent, I think the edge goes to Yann, but I think Borelli might just be the more impressive goalie. There's no way we could've put the two in the same ball park back in October. We expected great things by Yann by the time he was done. Anyone expect this?

So what's that mean for this weekend? Well, every goalie needs a hallmark win. Yann certainly had his, as did players like Mike Clemente more recently. Admittedly my brain doesn't go back past Scott Stirling, but the case can be made that as the underdog, this is the moment where Borelli would need to go out and get his hallmark postseason victory. This is an RPI team that's talented and playing some of the best hockey out there, and I think this is one of those times where it's going to take something better than just an all-out effort by Bruno. They're going to need a little bit of luck, and they're going to need a Herculean performance from somebody. Borelli has a hallmark win over Yale, and he has those performances against Clarkson in the playoffs and Q'pac dring the year. But I still have the feeling that it was really a total team effort to dominate the Knights last week.

Throwing out a discussion point just for the hell of it, ,with no stats, logic, or anything - I really have the gut feeling that if Brown beats an RPI team that's ludicrously good, it'll be because Borelli stonewalls them in their own barn. Think about the flair for the dramatic; to do it in the playoffs would be something Herculean. He's already All-Ivy, but I'm just throwing it out there. It sounds good doesn't it (like 85-90 saves in 2 nights?)

There's a lot of threads that are going longer. I think the general interest in college hockey is going up, which is great to see! Between television contracts and overall piqued interest, more and more people are jumping on the bandwagon. Based on last week's attendance, it's still touch and go, but I agree - the involvement among Brunonians is a great thing and should really keep going!

I can tell you all from experience that players feed off interest in their team, both negative and positive. They all like the attention.

You are absolutely correct. Hard to believe the Brown thread has over 100000 views considering the depths the program sunk to pre-Whittet.

was 6 years old , but remember that game , barely........ But Dick Toomey was a great coach , had the likes of gilligan, mckintosh, bothwell , mccabe (in net) all were all americans , lived a block away .Bill gilligan Lived with us . great teams brown had back than (late 70s), student lines would start at 5.00 pm and people would even come in during the brown freshman games , back when freshman were not allowed to play until second year.those games started at 100... In fact during the gilligan, mckintosh , luckowich days the brown freshman were 22-0 ... and played the varsity in exhibition and lost by a goal, they were that good ... Mark holden also played net for the freshman.

Mark Holden didn't play for that great freshman team in the 1973-1974 season. Kevin McCabe was the goaltender. Holden was a freshman in the 1976-77 season. By then there was no freshman team though there was a JV team.

Things are going so poorly for Northeastern that one of their fans started a thread about moving to the ECAC so that they can actually be competitive. That's why having a good TEAM is always preferable to having one big star.

...not that I wish any ill will upon the NU program. On the contrary, I actually hope they do well, because I love Matthews Arena and I can only imagine it's the best place in the world to watch a hockey game when it's packed for a big game. But I do feel a sense of stubborn pride over the whole Roy incident.
