Nice article on Matthews, Dan. I love going to games there, in part for the history that you describe well. And, their student fans in the balcony (the Dog Pound) are passionate for the game, a fine model for Bentley's Falcon Nest. Looking forward to attending Bentley's last chance to win an OOC game this season, unless we win the AHA post-season auto-seed, of course.

A look at venerable Matthews Arena, where Bentley will be playing on Saturday.

Three AHA teams in the polls. It makes me happy to see the league doing well and finally getting national recognition. Niagara, Holy Cross, and RMU are all deserving teams. My hat's off to those programs, and I hope, at the same time, Bentley can make some noise and pick up some wins against them!

Bentley left the door open a few times, but this UML team did not do much to impress me. Bentley controlled the game flow in the first and third periods, and after they took the lead, they went directly into the right style of play. Short shifts for the lines, 30-45 seconds, gain center ice, determine if there's a rush, if not tie it up deep into the UML end, make a change. UML had much more tired legs on the ice, and the two goals were scored 11 seconds apart in a manner that was not befitting Bentley.

It's funny, in a way. You can't look at the game and think that UML was the better team. The goals scored weren't the D's fault, and they weren't Komm's. UML didn't do anything to overwhelm strength-on-strength. The puck just went in. That's all there is to it.

That said, I leave with this thought: Two years ago, if you told me Bentley would lead or be tied for 55 minutes and lose in horrific fashion like that, against a Hockey East program, I'd call you crazy. This year, I walked out of Tsongas hating everything about the end of that game, and I drove home in virtual silence. I was genuinely upset by the outcome, and I felt like they'd done enough to win the game. I felt like that was our win and it was stolen. The fact that I was upset by the loss because of that shows how far this team has come. There's room left to improve, but at the same time, they've come so far. I'm looking forward to Northeastern on Saturday.

If I don't post before, happy new year everyone. I wish you all the best of health and happiness in 2013!
Don't forget, these guys beat UMass back in 2010 (when UMass was ranked as well). I wasn't there last night but from the sounds of it, that was Bentley's game. They need to take advantage especially of OOC matchups

Thanks! Like I've said before, we're knocking on the door. From my end, FWIW, I think UML is getting ready to turn the corner. I don't think they're where they should be, but that is one team that just doesn't quit.

    Thanks for the details, Dan.

My alma mater UNH was never really in the game tonight at Dartmouth, and I thought that Bentley played the Big Green better last month. And, BC got creamed 8-1 by the Gophers tonight, putting them into a PWR tie with Dartmouth.

I will be at Matthews on Friday night.

Keys to Bentley upset win and first ever against UML are:
    1. Stay out of P Box, as PK not good
    2. Continue excellent PP if given opportunity
    3. Tighten team D in front of Komm
