I'm going on vacation on Thursday, so I have to cram as much as I can about RIT week into a short week. Will be on hiatus from Thursday through Sunday.

But until then, I'm going to start off this week with one word: REVENGE

        From the CHN story:

"I really hope Hockey East teams continue to schedule Atlantic Hockey opponents. I understand the arguments against, of course — it can hurt an at-large bid, it doesn’t have many benefits for the larger program and losses are always embarrassing. Saturday night was special, though, especially for Bentley and its fans. Obviously, Northeastern isn’t playing hockey to help Bentley or any other small program. Still, it makes college hockey better when every team and conference has a chance to improve. The scheduling habits of the nation’s largest programs are simply shameful. This is the second consecutive time Bentley has defeated Northeastern at Matthews Arena. On Saturday, Mercyhurst defeated Maine and Holy Cross played very well in Grand Forks. A couple strong programs from strong conferences lost to bad teams on Saturday night, but college hockey won."

"Bad teams"? There are 5 AHA teams ahead of Northeastern in the RPI and 6 ahead of Maine, including Mercyhurst. There are 3 AHA teams in the Pairwise. On paper, the Mercyhurst win wasn't an upset. Maine winning the first game was an upset. Bentley and Northeastern are separated by 6 places in the RPI out of 59 teams. It's not a shocking upset. If Holy Cross had won it wouldn't have been all that shocking. An upset yes, but not a huge one. Both were ranked. Both are in the Pairwise.

Unfortunately, the prevailing attitude seems to be that the AHA is still a putrid league. They'll all point, right off the bat, to AIC and Sacred Heart. It's true that the bottom of the league has been the same for years, and the talent pool is a little diluted as a result. Save for one run by SHU a couple years ago, those teams have never made a run at the top of the league. But that's all they have. RIT went to the Frozen Four and has been competing strongly outside the league for years; Air Force has been ranked and beaten OOC teams as well. Holy Cross has taken it to teams. And RMU just destroyed the 3RC. They're ranked, and RMU is in line for an at large bid. But that doesn't mean anything because the AHA has AIC and Sacred Heart.

In my opinion that seems harsh. I am not a fan of either of these teams but have seen both play this year. Each are a player or two away or even a couple of good breaks away from winning some important games. I am a fan of Atlantic Hockey and I think we can look elsewhere as to our poor reputation in Division I Hockey. We have consistently done poor in OOC games, that's just not AIC or Sacred Heart, it has been all of us. We are doing better this year and let's hope that could result in our first at large bid. Secondly, except for a 1st round regional HC win and the run by RIT to the Frozen Four, the teams we have sent to the NCAA have been one and done, competitive, but one and done nonetheless. With our teams continuing to show better OOC records and by winning a couple of games in the NCAA Tournament, Atlantic Hockey can make some noise. Our success in OOC games this year have no doubt garnered the attention of the rest of D1 Hockey.

As to laying it all on AIC and Sacred Heart, remember, you still have four games against these two and if I were a fan of either of them I'd have one word on my mind after being beaten soundly by you earlier this year and that would be revenge...

I hope we all can agree that whoever comes out of Atlantic Hockey this year goes far into the tournament, that will help all of us.

I was being facetious. Totally agree with everything you said here. It angers me greatly when nobody gives the AHA respect.

Well I guess the whole "revenge" thing is working for you guys so congrats on last nights win.

A hot goalie can certainly make a big difference, I'll get to see your team in February when they travel to West Point. Best of luck tonight.

I am only working off box score here, but looks like the Tigers came out in force to shut out the best scoring team in Div 1.

Bentley needs to put a run together if they wish to improve on last season's record. Two home games against Canisius next weekend would be a good place to start.

I think this year the AHA Championship will be a crap shoot as I, along with many others much smarter than me, think the top 10 teams are so closely matched that each are capable of winning on any night they play each other. Your team has the tools and if they do go on a late season run they will be a difficult opponent for any team meeting them in the playoffs.

The latest rumor I've heard is that the school is holding off on building the arena until they get the funds to build an all-purpose massive arena that's going to be the centerpiece of campus. I'm guessing it'll be used for indoor graduation, public speakers, and concerts for Spring Weekend since the Dana Center is not conducive to any of that. It'll be similar to the Polisseni Center being built up at RIT, albeit on a slightly smaller level. I still have no idea where it would be built, but if I had to guess, I'd say in the back behind the baseball field. THat doesn't really make it a centerpiece, though, so I honestly have no idea where it would go without tearing something down.

The Dana Center is not coming down, so that's out. The only other place is on the tennis courts, but I doubt those will be torn up.
Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
