Snively - Thanks for the kudos. I've always had a great time at Matthews. I remember my days as a UG at UMass-Dartmouth. I was a freshman when my older brother was a senior. We went to the ECAC Northeast semifinal game at Wentworth by renting a school bus up from Dartmouth. Wentworth hosted the game at Matthews, and needless to say, 10 AM was a great time for, well, "breakfast in a silver can."

I'll never forget my brother bringing a fish with him to throw on the ice (because octopus was too expensive on the South Coast. He bought a whole white fish or something), and the NU police officer politely telling him that if we threw it on the ice, something bad would happen to us.

UMD was up 3-0, and after we were politely, very politely escorted from the building, they almost lost. I distinctly remember it being a 3-2 final that we waited outside Matthews to hear about.

I love that building simply because it's one of the all-time best venues to watch a game, and it gets loud in there. It's a great place, and I'm really looking forward to going back.
Win today and we'll walk together forever. -Ray Shero

Ha, ha, ha! Humanoid, I, and someone named Burgie are the only ones choosing the Falcons over the Huskies on the AHA Pick 'Em thread. After flirting in the top three all of last year, I have plummeted this season. But, Humanoid is hanging in there with the leaders.

If I win this year, I want a post where I can say that I'm going to Disneyland.

Oops, sorry, DieHardDog. Love your sign.

Justin Breton's unassisted goal to put Bentley up 3-1 with less than a minute remaining in the second was a beauty.

Nice win for your boys tonight. I had a feeling, after watching you at Tsongas, that you'd beat NU.

Thanks, UMLFan. I hope that we get to play at Tsongas again next season when I do not have a conflict.

Bentley played really well tonight, using their overall speed to beat the Huskies to a lot of pucks at mid-ice. When the Huskies came back to tie the game 3-3 early in the third, I thought that the Falcons might get frustrated. But, instead they came right back to take the lead again. I thought Soderquist was crazy to call a time out with about 12 minutes remaining when the Huskies were swarming the Bentley net trying to get the equalizer for a second time, but the strategy paid off, as Hartung scored his second of the night a couple of minutes later, unassisted (to match his two 2-minute boarding minors, Bentley's only penalties). Nice to see the stay-at-home D-man Marginsky get his first career goal on the empty net. Komm made several sensational saves of his 44 total, many of which he appeared to be completely screened. Great way to begin the second half of the season. I believe NU is the only OOC team that we have beaten twice, but I may be mistaken on this one. I really like Matthews Arena.

                      Some takes from tonight:

                      1) Bentley did a great job coming back after giving up the lead in the third. They didn't fold, and the timeout helped this team buoy itself even though they gave up a goal after it. I was thoroughly impressed with their tenacity. They simply wanted this game more than NU did, and I think at the end of the day, there was no way, and i mean NO WAY, bentley was losing this game.

                      2) NU has some soul searching to do because they are on the outside looking in. There were fans talking about how they played against UAH, that they showed up and skated 50-60 percent in those games. There were periods when NU thought they could win on talent alone tonight, and they didn't respond to their coaching staff. This is a team with some talent, and there's some major bright spots. But I think Bentley badly exposed some of the holes that come with "playing down."

                      3) I'm not even sure NU was playing down or if they really are that exposed.

                      4) Brett Gensler is the best player on the ice every time he sets foot into a game, but he's not the only one. Alex Grieve is developing, and I think Breton is one of the best pound-for-pound goal scorers in Atlantic Hockey. Bentley played without Andrew Gladiuk tonight.

                      5) Good contingent of Falcon fans out behind the Bentley bench. They smattered some chants and applause, but the blue and gold and black were out in a little bit of a force. I hope the schools taking note that this program really is popular.

                      6) A great game as always at Matthews to watch. It really is one of the best venues in all of hockey. The fans at NU were very gracious seeing me with a Bentley sweater on, and I had some great conversation in the stands. They're realistic about their team, but they still support them. They know they're not going to be BC or BU this year, but at the same time, they still cheer and support them. They didn't get down on them even in defeat, even though the game clearly sent them to the exits early. That's the way a fan base should be, and I am looking forward to hopefully seeing them more often.

                      7) Snively - I'll do you one better. Lowell comes to the JAR next year. Also, there's a rumor that another hockey east school is looking at Bentley as an opponent. I have no idea which one, but people I know are saying it could be big. It's definitely not Boston College, who is playing Brown on the road next year, but there's the possibility Bentley plays a couple of HEA schools next year. Remember that they drop from 27 to 20 league games so all those teams need more games. That means Bentley will play Lowell, most likely hopefully get NU on the schedule again, and somebody else who is apparently a big name. I'm guessing it might be Maine since Bentley's played them before.

Oops, I realized that Soderquist's time out came a couple minutes before NU's tieing goal, but did not say it correctly in my post, and I also thought that the sequence occurred later than it did. So, that said, calling a time out a couple minutes into the third period remains a stroke of genious from Soderquist, to answer a critic on previous pages in this thread. In any case, NU's tieing goal indeed changed the momentum back to Bentley for the remainder of the game, rather than the reverse, which is what one might expect.

Is it a done deal that HE teams will be playing only 20 intra-conference games rather than 30 next season, which would reduce their OOC games to 4 rather boosting to 14? Of course, I would like to see more OOC opportunities for AHA - HE match ups, and it seems that Bentley should play many more than just a couple of games against HE teams if those teams have 14 OOC games to fill, especially considering the additional travel costs for alternatives. As you know, I would love to see Bentley get an invite by UNH to try out their speed on the big sheet in Durham. Would be the last chance to see Gensler and Goumas match up as seniors.

It is a done deal. Hockey East announced that they're changing the playoff format too, but I don't know to what. I know when they go to 12, everyone will make the playoffs. As for conference games, they'll play everyone twice. That means 20 games until UConn joins, and then it's 22. Everyone plays home and home on a weekend, save for Vermont, Maine, and Notre Dame (which are 2-home, or 2-road like what we have with the western teams).
