What or where is Underwood?

Underwood is the hamlet near Exit 30 on the Northway. That's where NY 73 starts, at a place colloquially referred to as "Malfunction Junction" (3-way intersection with at-speed ramps and some yield signs). NY 73 goes towards Keene Valley and subsequently on to Lake Placid, while US 9 heads towards Elizabethtown and continues towards Plattsburgh. South of Malfunction Junction, US 9 continues south through Schroon Lake and towards Lake George.

I assume that Underwood is about halfway between the Northway and that intersection where there is an Underwood Road. I must have been there on a bus with my brother in the summer of 1963 heading to Lake Placid.

It is north of the Northway exit and south of Malfunction Junction, yes. There isn't much of the hamlet left (as it's pretty much ghosted) and is within the town of North Hudson. You have it pretty much correct.

That isn't all that surprising. There's a story that the actual Rand McNally visited the area when he was first drawing his maps.

Now that the ice shavings have settled. This is by far Seth's best year. The way I look at any season it is not what you do in the begining or middle of the season that counts.(Green Bay) If that was the case this woud be his worse season. It is how you mature as the season moves ahead. Seth has made them better. From Jan 6 and beyond they were much better than before the break. Even after the break, the Engineers had some setbacks, and breakdowns that no team should have. Their on ice judgement, concentration and their body language, ugh......it was extremely hard to watch. But they strung together some good periods in Jan.
I don't know how Seth got them back on track but credit where credit is due. Despite what happens with Union, I will be more optimistic going into next season than I was going into this one.

Seth put alot of pressure on the upperclassmen. I personally thought he might loose them and then the whole team would collapse. I guess he knew what he was dealing with because these upperclassmen have shown great character and really played well last weekend. The younger guys have been getting quality ice time and have played well but they still make young guy mistakes.

You need the upperclassmen to win big games. Seth called them out and got what he wanted. Good for him.

To all you yankers who booed the seniors on senior night take a leap!

The last couple of months Patrick Cullen has turned into the player we thought he would be. He has been playing great.
If I get first choice in a mock ECAC draft I take Nick Balien.

Good points Beman, but by no means is work done. The biggest thing Coach has done is shown that he can lead on the road. That's an easy thing to fix. The next thing that needs to be taught is home maturity, and being able to block out distractions that occur at home. Now might not be the best time to teach that, but it certainly needs to be taught. Responsibility lies on both the coaching staff to create the legislation, and the players to execute.

Although if they don't take WaP's advice and turn this weekend into a real road game, it might not hurt to at least give a little advice about blocking out the distractions of home.

Most of "Underwood" is State Forest preserve lands. What private land in that hamlet is owned by the Underwood Club - a group of privately owned summer camps near and around Makomis Pond. The club was est. by Ohio industrial money back in the day.

Kudos to Kurt Stutt and partner for the call on all three games. Pretty balanced reporting enthusiastic goal scoring descriptions for both teams. Seemed to be on top of things as they sorted thru the officials calls to let us know what was happening from miles away. FYI icing is when ... oh never mind none of us knows what icing is anymore. Thanks guys.

Shoutout to RedCloud... North Hudson...isn't this where the former 'Frontier Town' was located? If so, I'm reminded that to the west is the (in)famous Blue Ridge Highway running to Newcomb and remnant of Tahawas as well as the source of the Hudson River?

OK, here's the big question. We know that RPI plays better on road weekends. Does Appert make them stay at a hotel next weekend even though they live just up the road?
