A lot of the Maine goals would cause a facepalm from Parker.

Maine's 2nd goal was Clendenning with possession behind the net and he got smacked and coughed it up. Anyone think there might have been a massive pick to allow O'Neill to snipe that shot after walking in from the blue line? Total facepalm moment there for Clendenning.

Third goal is a series of facepalm moments. BU goes from the PP in Maine's zone followed by Privitera coughing it up after a somewhat bad pass from Esobedo and then stumbling around like an injured animal on ice. Incredibly he was able to stay close enough to whack Abbott on the breakaway (luckily Abbott was ok here, as only BU players get broken bones on slashes and only from Gerbe, Gionta, Collins, Boyle, Eaves, and any other 20+ goal scorers from BC). Penalty. Maine goal. Facepalm.

BU never saw the lead after that.

Fourth goal is Clendenning on the puck and going to clear. Not sure what the heck happened as he seems to put it too far up the middle. Does it hit another BU player and he coughed it up? Either way, another facepalm moment for Parker.

All 3 preventable and caused by bad turnovers where BU had possession. You HAVE to take care of the puck.

Trivino has never been one of those players. Even outside of the rink, he'll say hi and is plenty of friendly, but has never been even close to saying or doing anything inappropriate.

It's meshing as a team and playing well at the right time that has elluded them. The players change, so I think you have to look at the one constant. He had his typical postgame remarks as well. I don't know how the players and you fans put up with it. It would drive me crazy.

Speaking of parker, I can see him doing a facepalm after watching gaudet on that first maine goal. I've never seen anything quite like that.
Didn't say I agreed with it...just saying that it's a possible reason. Somebody on the Maine thread hit it on the head..."BU has a bunch of NHL players...doesn't translate well to the college game." So he's saying what you are...as Herb Brooks said "You're not GOOD ENOUGH to win on talent alone." It's still a team game. I don't think it's necessarily a "consciouis" thing...it's just the way talented players play. Like the NBA has become one on one. That's what happens when you're talented - you think you can do it all yourself and you don't TRUST your teammates. I just watch BC and think that it's amazing how everyone just seems to magically know where everyone else is on the ice, until I realize that that's the way they PRACTICE and that's the way they EXPECT to play - "all in." It's like one UNIT (like the Borg on Star Trek - all of one mind) with many appendages, but they're all connected to the same brain. BU seems disconnected at times, all with a mind of their own. That works in golf, but not in a team sport. Team sports are the ultimate embodiment of socialism. You have to buy into the totally selfless concept.

I looked at the scoreboard during the introductions of the BC players last night. I'll looking at the heights and saying "I can't believe how SMALL they are." Whitney is 5-7, etc. But that's why they win. A smaller percentage of their guys are going to the NHL, so this is it for them. They lean on each other more and seem to play like a more closely-knit unit.

And regarding Parker (for those who didn't see it, here's the quote from the Portland Press-Herald: "I can't describe how disappointed I am in my team's play," BU Coach Jack Parker said. "Maine didn't have to play that hard to beat us."), are we going to hear this after every game they lose?? And just who does he think is RESPONSIBLE for how the team plays????? And it sure looked like Maine played hard to me.

But I still think that a short-handed (no pun intended - not in the penalty sense - although that occurred too often as well, but I've already talked about that) BU was simply out of gas by the end of that game.

It didn't hit anyone...it was a bad play. As Craig Janney said, "A horrendous giveaway. If you're going to clear the puck up the middle it has to be HARD."

It doesn't even matter which teams are playing, or what year it is. NESN and NBC sports can program the call to play at the push of a button.

Puck's in the corner, corralled, soft clear up the middle...INTERCEPTED in the slot . . . wrister . . . Score!

I've seen Maine on the wrong end of that play more times than I'd like to count.

Hmm... I haven't counted, but does BC really have fewer NHLers over the past decade than anyone else? Off the top of my head I can think of quite a few....

I think it is true, but I'm referring more to "prototypical" NHL players - meaning, bodies. BU tends to get bigger players who potentially would be drafted. Yes, I know Gerbe, etc, but in general. Unfortunately, many of these players turn out to not stick around very long, but at least they get there. That means when they're in college, they're thinking about the NHL from day one. I feel as though BC gets more guys who "want to play for BC." In other words, more continuity and players who stay longer. Heck, BU PROMOTES their program as a stepping-stone to the NHL. Years ago you got local guys who grew up cheering for BU and watching the Beanpot (guys from Charlestown, Southie, etc). Now there are only five Massachusetts players on the roster (and only two play). Five from New York and two each from Michigan and California. I can't imagine that these guys have any particular "allegiance" to BU and were probably lured by BU's track record of putting guys in the NHL.

There is no question that York gets his guys to play better as a TEAM, so don't think I'm bringing the NHL thing up to make excuses for Parker. But is IS a significant factor I feel...

Both times, Clendening (I think) did not charge the puck, and we blew two great chances to set up a play with the goalie pulled. Frustrating.
That was frustrating. When Chiasson won that draw, right away it's like, "Yes! Now set it up!" And then it just sits there, floating away. "Somebody GET IT!!!"

I was watching, and I thought BU looked great, no disrespect to Maine. I thought Chiasson looked like a beast, totally and calmly in control; I thought Connolly was everywhere; I thought Millan was ON.

First off I very much hope Abbott is going to be OK -- but that hit by Diamond was a really, really dangerous boarding. I was actually worried about Escobedo as the play went the other way, the way his back bent as he get smooshed into the wall.

So if BU pays off someone to win the first game we're looking at BU-BC to go to the FF. Wonderful.

This just means that BU can get its much-needed revenge on BC for the 2006....

... yeah, that ain't gonna happen.
