Basically it comes down to bracket integrity vs. maximizing $$$...Moy went with $$$, CHW went with bracket integrity. Moy is the heavy favorite.

FWIW, I tried to convince the others that North Dakota would be sent to St Paul, bracket integrity be ****ed, but I was outvoted 6 to 2. Needless to say, there are excellent argument on both sides of the coin, and we will find out tomorrow at noon (eastern) how everything shakes out.

Looks like this. Exactly the same as CHN.

    West Regional (St. Paul, Minn.):
14 Western Michigan vs. 4 North Dakota
9 Boston University vs. 8 Minnesota

    Midwest Regional (Green Bay, Wis.):
    13 Cornell vs. 2 Michigan
11 Denver vs. 6 Ferris State

    East Regional (Bridgeport, Conn.):
15 Michigan State vs. 3 Union
    12 Massachusetts-Lowell vs. 5 Miami

    Northeast Regional (Worcester, Mass.):
16 Air Force vs. 1 Boston College

    Re: 2012 NCAA Tournament: Bracketology

I am looking a little more in depth at the #4 seeds. When you look at the actual comparisons, it seems to me you find that :
    1) Cornell and WMU are very close to each other(, and to Lowell also as far as that goes).
    2) There is a big difference between WMU and MSU. I mean WMU has the edge by a significant amount.
    3) There is also a big jump from MSU to Air Force.

    What this all means is:
Whatever happens with the top of the bracket, at the bottom, it needs to be matched up BC/AFA; Mich/Cornell; Union/MSU; UND/WMU because the #3 overall should have a lower ranked opponent than the #4 overall, and here, MSU is measurably lower than WMU. I know it makes a 3-way swap to avoid Mich v CCHA, but it is the right thing here.

I agree. That's the one difference I'd have.

I'm glad the Gophers are back in the tournament. I will take whatever matchup we get. Maine or BU? Bring 'em on. The Whioux or Michigan? As long as we get to Sunday, who cares?

yeah.. though i can see also flipping bu and maine too with this set up.

i like to see as many first round games that have the seeds = 17 and regions =34 as possible. 'rewarding' michigan (2) with the (8) here helps [even though the closer trip for them is green bay, and sioux's st paul].

This is the funniest thing posted on this very serious thread. Moy bashing.

Very well put, JD. So much depends on what piece of the puzzle the committee starts with. We can only guess at that, and then argue that "my guess is better than yours..."

    The factors to me:
    1) What does 'preserving bracket integrity really mean?" i.e. 1-x-9-16 or 8-9.
    2) When they place the #1 band, do they go strictly by geography, or do they look ahead to the #2 band.
    3) When they do the #2s, do they say, "OK, Minn to St Paul. they are off the table. Now, BC gets whoever is lowest left..." Or, is there another way.
    4) When they place the #3s, is there a real difference between BU and Maine? If so, who goes east?

    Other factors, too????

I just got in from the game (and trying to catch a cab...a Boston cab) so this may have already been posted:

    Code:
Bridgeport	Worcester	St. Paul	Green Bay
Union Boston C	Michigan	No Dakota
    	Ferris St	Duluth Minnesota	Miami
    	Lowell Maine Boston U	Denver
Mich State	Air Force	Cornell W Mich
That's my first crack. If the committee values attendance more, switch Lowell and Maine.
