The moral of the story is Wisconsin just isn't a great hockey market. It's ok.
Slap Shot - 444 might want to consider a restraining order. dggoddard - Minnesota is THE ELITE Program in all of college hockey. wasmania - you have to be the very best to get ice time with the great gophers!
Six pages of dismissing every aspect of the notion of UWM starting hockey, from the facility that only exists in theory to the parts where not even college hockey fans who have lived in Milwaukee think there's a market for it.
But yeah, I'm the only one dismissing it, and surely it must be because I'm a Badger. *thumbs up*
I think the reason the thread won't go away quietly is that Wisconsinites would love to see another D1 team, even if it's only a pipe dream. If you talk about it long enough, it might spark more interest.....
There have been some places where a college hockey fanbase has been created with little or no hockey culture......Nebraska-Omaha, the Ohio schools. With the right marketing, UWM might build a following, but it would be a long haul. They'd need a lot of help from the UW hockey program, the Admirals organization and the UWM basketball program to fill seats. They'd also need a major sideshow for those who won't understand the game....perhaps a giant pirate ship with scantily clad cheerleaders could be hauled out on the rink at half-time and they could shoot fans down the ice with a giant sling-shot.

This is the exact reason I never got much into the Admirals while I lived in Milwaukee. Going to Gamblers games in GB isn't much better, but at least they mostly stick to ****ty DJ music to assault the fans' experience.
If you want to be aBADGER, just come along with me
BRING BACK PAT RICHTER!!!
At his graduation ceremony from the U of Minnesota, my cousin got a keychain. When asked what UW gave her for graduation, my sister said, "A degree from a University that matters."

Seriously? Half-time?
Having a clear conscience just means you have a bad memory or you had a boring weekend.
So either Wisconsin fans are too insecure to accept the possibility of another team or are so desperate for another team that they're inventing it out of whole cloth? Well that makes sense. You guys fight it out and let us know how we really feel.
Wisconsin Hockey: What're YOU looking at?
The number of times a poster posts per day is directly correlated with how dissatisfied he is with his relationship.

Good to see this incredibly stupid idea would only take place for one second.
These gimmicks are the current staples of Milwaukee Admiral Hockey.....VERY popular with the locals.......and they add more of this stuff every year.
There's generally a live 2 song performance from a has-been pop-star as well...usually someone playing at the local casino that weekend.
The hockey game is truly incidental, but without this stuff, I can't say the lower deck would be even half full.
Sorry about the "half-time" misnomer but it does remind me more of football threatrics.
Yeah, people seem to like that and fake fights during the pee-wee skates between periods (which I have never seen anywhere else - granted that's only Kohl center games and WCHA final 5). Those truly make me shake my head (I don't see anything funny or 'cute' about encouraging pee-wee's to fight, even if fake).
Once upon a time (80's), the Admirals drew well (easily 10,000/game) - I'm not sure what caused the decline to these depths, or if Milwaukee can ever really truly come back as a hockey town. Makes me sad, especially now that I'm back in the area, and would go to UW-Milwaukee games if they had hockey. But there's no way I see enough local support in the current environment.

Cos 80 year old effeminate guys counting goals and students singing beer commercials is what hockey should be.
Gimmicks are part of every minor league hockey team - that is not unique to Milwaukee.
Back to the topic at hand, UWM is moving the basketball team back to Klotsche, with a short-term plan of adding a practice facility (so Klotsche can be used by the students on non-game nights), and a long-term plan of adding a new on-campus arena (assumed for basketball - they didn't say it would be multi-purpose, but I suppose it's a possibility). One of the new AD's top priorities is getting a new baseball field (which it should be). Hockey not on the radar anytime soon. I haven't seen football mentioned recently, either.
