Re: Most school victories in home arena ??

Denver has a total of 815 home wins between 1949-50 and 2010-11. The breakdown by arena is as follows.

    DU Arena - 607
    Magness Arena - 166
    Denver Coliseum - 21
    McNichols Arena- 16
    Cadet Ice Arena - 2
    World Arena - 2
    Broadmoor - 1

In November 1972 the roof beams in the DU Arena began cracking under the weight of a heavy wet snow. The arena was immediately shut down and repairs began. DU played the rest of their home schedule in the 1972-73 season at the Denver Coliseum, The Broadmoor and the Cadet Ice Arena at the Air Force Academy. The full 1997-98 and 1998-99 home seasons were played at the Denver Coliseum, McNichols Arena, Cadet Ice Arena, and the World Arena. The Wells Fargo Denver Cup games were played at McNichols Arena from 1994-95 through 1998-99 and are counted as home games by DU.

DU's all time record is 1,281-855-123 for a total of 2,259 games.

DU played 918 games at the DU Arena.

Having exchanged emails with Kurt Stutt, whose website was quoted, about similar things in the past, I am sure that it included all games which were not considered exhibition games at the time, even if they would be treated as such now. That is, he included all home games that counted in our record.

Bemidji State ended up with 502 wins in 685 games at the John Glas Fieldhouse. At the Sanford Center, they have 5 wins in 16 games. So that is 507 wins in 701 games in those two facilities.

If you want to throw in their other rinks (City Arena and outdoor rinks from day gone by), then you can add 45 more wins in 65 games. So all together, that is 552 wins in 766 home games.

Re: Most school victories in home arena ??

I've been working on a database that makes looking stuff like this up pretty easy.

This is what I found in my database for 400+ home wins (not counting exhibitions). Take these numbers with a big grain of salt, they're not even remotely official but they should at least be close. Unless I got the opening dates for these venues wrong or something.

          Code:
          Denver @ DU Arena: 611-270-45
          RPI @ Houston: 591-330-50
          Minnesota @ old Mariucci: 545-207-34
          Michigan @ Yost: 509-184-33
(Bemidji State @ Glas: 502 wins)
          Cornell @ Lynah: 497-192-52
          Michigan St @ Munn: 491-189-52
          Northeastern @ Matthews: 483-461-67
          Bowling Green @ BGSU: 477-254-49
          Princeton @ Hobey Baker: 473-480-59
          UMD @ DECC: 461-355-52
          CC @ Broadmoor: 460-380-35
          Clarkson @ Walker: 456-143-24
          Wisconsin @ Dane: 445-174-23
          Air Force @ Cadet: 440-272-40
          Harvard @ Bright/ Watson: 434-191-35
          Colgate @ Starr: 422-242-40
Maine @ Alfond: 415-160-40 (12 wins became forfeits)
North Dakota @ old Ralph: 400-171-23
Bowling Green is interesting, nobody's mentioned them yet but they're getting pretty close to 500 home wins.

My numbers don't quite match anybody's that have been posted. If people are willing I'd like to dig into the discrepancies. I'd like to get this data out there for others to use, but I also don't want to put bad data out there.

I got 607 wins for DU at the old barn from last year's media guide. See post 16 in this thread. I think you counted the 4 Denver Cup games in 1997-98 and 1998-99 as being in the old barn for your 611 wins as they are not listed with a venue. The old barn was torn down in those 2 seasons and the games were at McNichols Arena.

I have the Denver Cup in DU Arena only in 92-93 and 93-94. As you said in your post, it moved to McNichols after that, then moved to Magness when it opened.

The last games I have in DU Arena are the home playoff games in 96-97.

I did find two games in 72-73 I had in Denver Arena after looking at your post again. Fixing that (a split with Wisconsin) brings my total to 610-269-45.

That gives me a total of 924 games in DU Arena vs the 918 you counted.

If I find all of last seasons win, UM had 15 home wins last year, bringing the all time wins to 421. Got a ways to go to get 500 at Yost.

UM history here- http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-hock...e/history.html, and the Yost info is at the back of Part 3.

Good thread, and congrats to all teams who have 500 wins on a single home sheet!!!!
Congrats to Michigan then! As far as I can tell they hit 500 wins at Yost this past season.

From the Yost info at your link, Michigan was 496-185-32 at Yost after 2009-10 (see the last page). My database has 494-182-32 for that stretch, which I contend is correct after looking into it in the year-by-year results at your link. I had four seasons of discrepancies:

                75-76: them: 13-9-0 db: 11-7-0
                80-81: them: 12-6-0 db: 11-6-0
                86-87: them: 8-10-0 db: 9-10-0
                08-09: them: 16-4-0 db: 16-3-0

75-76 and 08-09 they counted wrong. 75-76 also has a home game listed as an away game (2/14 vs Denver).
80-81 and 86-87 were errors in my database (80-81 was a mistake in Michigan's 07-08 media guide, 86-87 was a mistake in the Hockey-L composite score list), but they canceled each other out.

Adding in 2010-11's 15-2-1 record brings the total to 509-184-33.

Here is the link to the DU media guide. The all time home records are on p.83. The individual season records are on pages 75-82. In 72-73 DU only had 4 home games (all wins) at the DU Arena before the roof cracked. They had total of 21 home wins that season with 17 being off campus. I just re-checked the numbers and DU had 630 home wins through 1996-97. Subtracting the 4 Denver Cup games at McNichols in 95-96 and 96-97 and the 17 off campus wins in 72-73 results in 609 wins at the DU Arena.

My re-checked numbers give DU a total of 920 home at the old barn. DU had 945 home games through 96-97. Subtracting the 4 McNichols Denver Cup games and the remaining 21 home games in 72-73 results in the 920 total games at the old arena. DU played a total of 25 home games in 72-73 with only 4 at the old barn.

The home records on page 83 are, unfortunately, full of counting mistakes.

I checked all the following discrepancies by counting home wins and losses in the game-by-game results, and the db number was always correct:

                    53-54: them: 14-6-0 db: 13-6-0
                    56-57: them: 13-7-1 db: 12-7-1
                    57-58: them: 19-2-2 db: 18-2-2
                    73-74: them: 17-3-1 db: 17-4-1
                    75-76: them: 13-11-0 db: 11-10-0
                    78-79: them: 13-4-1 db: 13-4-2
                    91-92: them: 5-13-1 db: 5-12-1

For 94-95 and 96-97, the totals on page 83 don't include the Denver Cup.
For 95-96 pg. 83 is again wrong. DU was 14-6-1 in home games not including the Denver Cup that year.

I'll defer to you on the game-by-game analysis. I was strictly looking at the annual results. On the win side we are 1 off 609 to 610. Too bad Jimbo is no longer with us because he would have all the correct numbers.
