On Saturday, the Youngstown Phantoms defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers 8-6. Chris Bradley had a hat trick (1 ppg). He was named #2 star. (Only? Perhaps they found out that he bribed Kasdorf. ) Jason Kasdorf saved 28 of 33 shots in 43:26. http://ushl.stats.pointstreak.com/bo...gameid=1660207

      Bradley's line is now 28-4-6-10-8.
      Kasdorf's line is now 24-10-10-2-3.19-.903.

They put him back in and he gave up another after his backup only saved 3 of 6. Bradley scored his hat trick. Not bad for someone with only one goal previously.

just got back from watching Gunnery defeat Alb. Aca. 6-2. Jake Wood was as expected....good. He had a charging penalty & scored a PPG. Goal was a beauty, a give & go. He passed to the low man & went to the front of the net (in the slot) where he took the pass skating backwards...got control of the puck on his stick & wristed a laser over the goalie's shoulder. Then skated to the corner & did an, "Ovechkin" leap into the glass...in front of SA . What we'll see is, as SA put it, "is a kid with a set as big as they come". They still are undecided, at this point, as to where he'll play next year. I don't believe he had any assists RB.

Looking through the recruit list-we seem to be getting small in the next 2 years. The addition of Bubla helps make us at least look a bit bigger. There seems though to be a lot of uncertainty as to where players will be playing next year and in fact whether they will be coming to Troy in 2012 or not. At least, though, we are amassing a nice number of new faces. On paper this group does not yet seem as impressive as the last group or the group from 3 years ago but as we have seen-trying to guess how these young boys will play at the NCAA Div I level is pretty tough.

SA had some comments at the pre-game alumni event in New Haven and he spoke a little about recruits - primarily about next year's guys (who he's allowed to discuss) but he mentioned we have 7-8 guys committed that he's not allowed to talk about as of yet. This after mentioning Bradley, Miller, Zalewski, and Kasdorf, would seem to indicate there may be one or two more we do not already know about.

He also mentioned that we have a '96 committed (which we assumed to be Manley) and that he is not the only guy in that age range that we are after. He discussed how the commitments have started getting earlier and earlier in an attempt to get the best of the available prospects.

GR-This speaks for the difficult position SA is put into. He has to make commitments and decisions 3-4 years ahead and some of these kids are just so immature at that stage that it is impossible to make a valid judgement. I have 2 scouts as close firends-they are often expected to evaluate kids who are barely 12-13. I do not know how that is even possible-many of these kids are not even close to reaching bone maturity let alone strength and speed. How do you translate what you see in a 13 year old into skill level 5 -7 years later? On second thought though-i do remember being in Boston in my Residency in medicine when the talk was about this so called super young kid who was coming in a few years who would turn around the Boston Bruins fortune-I think it was some little kid name Orr, who for some reason seemed to have some sort of talent.

I'll wait until redhead posts the USHR stats in case something changes. I take it that the schedule here http://portal.gunnery.org/NetCommuni...52&Term=winter is wrong.

SA did note that he is still probably looking to add one more for next season (after explaining it will be a smaller class due to the number of freshmen this season), but it wasn't decided yet whether that would be a new recruit, or someone already committed coming in a year sooner.

The early recruiting will also complicate matters when making coaching decisions. Does a school decide to terminate a coach knowing that it may cost them not just one recruiting class but possibly more? Not only are most schools pretty booked for '12, but a lot of the top '13 recruits are already in the can. If you lose some of your top '12 and '13 recruits, it may be impossible to replace them from the pool of remaining uncommitted prospects. Similarly, if a coach leaves voluntarily will the need to keep future recruiting classes intact encourage picking someone from the existing staff as a replacement?

That problem potentially arises every time that a coach leaves now.

Absolutely RB. Anytime a coach leaves or is canned, the recruiting list is immediately at risk. (Union went through this with Leaman cherry picking a couple of U recruits to PU). Appert is adjusting to today's recruiting environment. Like it or not, that's today's landscape - at least for blue chippers.
