I don't believe college hockey will have a problem with this new cutline.
Slap Shot - 444 might want to consider a restraining order.
dggoddard - Minnesota is THE ELITE Program in all of college hockey.
wasmania - you have to be the very best to get ice time with the great gophers!

The reason for the talent in the west? Because MN didn't rely on Canada.

Doesn't college hockey have one of the best graduation rates?

Excellent, more stats for football and basketball programs to fudge.

I agree. I was a bit puzzled by the Syracuse situation they mentioned, though. Boeheim said the team lost scholarships even though the players left for the pros and were in good academic standing at the time, but the NCAA said the APR accounts for that. So which is it? The article never said.

Another problem with this formula I believe is transfers count against your score. I think this is why Purdue may be on the list, as it is not a school that has historically had problems graduating its scholarship athletes. I think doing away with the 1 year grades and evaluating strictly on the 4-year rolling average will lessen the impact of transfers. I don't know that it is fair to punish a school that loses a coach and then a couple of freshmen decide to leave because the new coach tells them they aren't in his plans. Of course if that impacts the potential of a post-season bid, maybe fewer coaches will alienate their players when they take over a program.
