The Gensler game-tying goal is intense! Great job by Bentley to rally.

I do not think that Komm was the same after he got run by Cox (it was not just a bump to the body, but an elbow to the head at full speed; why this penalty was not a 5-minute major and game misconduct is beyond me, although I thought that the officiating improved after that until near the end of OT), but Dougherty looked great in net to finish the game. I do not agree with ticky-tack calls in OT, and apparently neither did Gensler, earning his game misconduct. Kudos to Bentley for holding on with their PK the last two minutes of OT.

Bentley missed a great opportunity to move up in the AHA standings this past weekend, after winning in West Point 6-2, but then losing in Watertown 3-1 the next night. The Falcons really need to sweep in their home and home against Sacred Heart this coming weekend to keep up with UConn and/or stay in contention for a first-round bye. Kudos to Brett Gensler getting AHA player of the month and Alex Grieve winning AHA rookie of the month.

Going into last weekend, with four games against the bottom two, I thought that six points in two weekends was a must. They've already used their mulligan against Army, so its time for the sweep.

Good 5-2 win tonight for Bentley, although after two periods at 1-1 it seemed like the game could have gone either way. Legatto kept the Pioneers in the game until the dam broke in the third. Stonacek's assist for the tieing goale midway through the second was only topped by his second shorty of the season to put the game away late in the third.

#3 star: Jared Rickford (2 assists)
#2 star: Aaron Stonacek (assist and sh goal)
#1 star: Branden Komm (got some help from the post and cross bar, but did not leave many rebounds out front)

Thanks for link; excellent article by Dan Rubin. This quote from his article nicely sums up the recent changes in the fan base:

"In a somewhat-neighborhood, family setting, Bentley has dedicated students that created The Falcon’s Nest in its left side bleachers. It’s a small group of students who show up and get loud and harass the opposing team. They’re far enough off to the side where they don’t get into it with opposing fans, but, because of the smallness of the building, their small group is loud enough to make the building hostile. What’s great about these fans is that they don’t miss a single game, and they’re there at every home game. They understand the game of hockey, and they’re intelligent, unlike other places where fans sometimes scream and yell and have no idea what they’re screaming and yelling about."

I understand that 200 free t-shirts were handed out between the second and third periods, which perhaps explains why about 200 students did not return for the third period in a 1-1 game. But, the diehard, knowledgeable, and loud group of the students in the so-called "Falcons' Nest" in the back corner always stays to the very end, which is a good thing as otherwise there would be no one for the players to stick salute after their home wins, as most fans bolt at the final buzzer "to beat the traffic," which is comical given that there is hardly any traffic on River Street in Watertown.

The Falcons really need sweeps this weekend and next, as the final two weekends against UConn and Holy Cross will be for AHA eastern pod supremacy and a possible opening bye in the post-season tourney.

Gensler picks up an EAG with 1 second left to salvage a 3-3 tie, after the Falcons were down 3-0 in the first period (7th OT of the year for the Falcons, all ending as ties). Makes up for RMU's EAG with two seconds remaining for 2-2 tie last month, I suppose. I guess that a win at home and a tie on the road is usually ok, except in this case the Falcons really needed all four points on the weekend to move up in the standings. The Falcons will get another chance next weekend in home and home with AIC.

The standings are so log-jammed that Bentley could end up anywhere from 3rd to 9th realistically without a ton of help or a team collapsing. The thing that scares me is that AIC always comes in and steals a game from Holy Cross, Bentley, and others... they're going to be a tough draw.

Exactly, a log jam it is. But, there is much more balance in the top five western pod teams, so something should give there and allow at least one of the three leading eastern pod teams to move up into a first round bye. But, which eastern pod team will that be? The Falcons, Crusaders, and Huskies now have their fates in their own hands.

Falcons and Crusaders win their first games. Stonacek gets his third shorty (5-3) of season for game winner against AIC.

Good to see Koudys pick up two goals and an assist.

Falcons have their bye destiny in their own hands with four games against UConn and HC the next two weekends.

With four games to go, it is time to start talking about Gensler getting consideration for AHA POTY. The decision is deeper than simply being the league's scoring leader, but that's certainly a good start. Thoughts?
