  • Re: UNH Off Season Thread 2011

A buddy of mine who has connections in the box office has passed on the word the there will be a meeting on Thursday between UNH, Maine, UMass and UVM along with HE officials at Fenway. This along with the schedule changes amongst all the Hockey East schools might be a hint that the Fenway deal still has some life in it.

Why do you think the Jan 7th BC game was moved?

I'm not sure on the credibility of the source, but this website also confirms the game:

We've known and posted about the almost certainty of the game for over a month now. It's happening.

The USHL's official twitter account is reporting that Mike Ayers is the next goaltending coach at the USNTDP, replacing Joe Exter who left for Ohio State. Could Ayers be on the UNH coaching radar as Umile inches closer to retirement and Lassonde entertains offers elsewhere?

With a couple of fan favorites - Mike Ayers and Patrick Foley - advancing in their coaching careers, who knows what might happen down the road. Interesting stuff.

Been out of country for the past 3+ weeks, but did not see anything posted in this thread about Ty Conklin returning to the Red Wings to back up Jimmy Howard in 2011-2012.

glad to see his goal scoring touch carry to the show. He should be a part of the ottawa rebuilding process.

Or his third stop if you count Iowa and St Cloud

                            From USHR: Lassonde Heads West

Longtime UNH assistant David Lassonde is moving to the University of Denver, where he will fill the assistant’s position vacated by Derek Lalonde, who was recently named head coach of the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL).

Lassonde, a Rochester, NH native, has been an NCAA assistant since starting at UNH in 1988. That’s 22 full seasons – 18 of which have been spent at UNH. He also spent three seasons at Wisconsin (’91-94), and three at Miami-Ohio (’94-99).

Like Lalonde, who he is replacing, Lassonde, a goalie at Providence College in the early ‘80s, is noted for his work with goaltenders. Pretty much every summer he can be found working with goaltenders at USA Hockey Select Festivals.

Best of luck to Coach Lassonde. His body of work at UNH was exceptional. A quality goaltending coach is a critical element to a winning Division 1 team (just ask the Maine fans).
Wonder if it's too late for Mike Ayers to back out of his new position with the National Team Development Program?

Time for speculation about Coach Lassonde's replacement to begin.
How about Chris Economou, goalie coach for the Waterloo Black Hawks, who works with Matt DiGirolamo and Ty Conklin?
