  • 2012 Laura Hurd Award Finalists Announced (D-III National POTY)

    Norwich Athletics website release:

    http://www.norwichathletics.com/spor..._Award_3-12-12

    Four finalists are:

Senior - Forward - Julie Fortier (Norwich)
Senior - Forward - Allie Schwab (Gustavus Adolphus)
Junior - Defense - Geneva Lloyd (Amherst)
Freshman -Forward - Dani Schultz (Wis.-Superior)

All four were their respective conference's Player of the Years....Very curious as to why the ECAC West doesn't have a representative on here in either the form of Teal Gove from Plattsburgh or Kourtney Kunichika from RIT.

In the 10 years the Laura Hurd Award has been given out in the NCAA D-III championship era, only two individuals that have won it have also gone on to win the national championship.

Danielle Blanchard of Plattsburgh is one...who's the other?

OK, I'll try again. Pure guess, Laura Hurd herself maybe ?.

          I'll add another trivia question.

IIRC, Blanchard won it as a Junior. Were there any other Non-Senior winners ?

Sara Dagg winning yes. RIT, not so much.

Figured the answer was in the era that Seymore's D was involved, so went back to that timeframe. Then you consider that Middlebury is the only team with three championships and the only team with more than two Hurd award winners with four and the answer you come up with is someone from Middlebury. Take those facts and the answer is Emily Quizon in 2006.
