        Yes and no:

I think it's funny to hear how much UMTC and their fans care about the smaller programs in MN, but then in the next sentence say how they can't wait to play new opponents.
What you said, "We as fans", hope for doesn't jive with what he said, "We as fans", hope for. You're claiming consistency, he's claiming anything but. As I said these hopes don't have to be exclusive but more importantly we don't make the schedule.

And yes it is about the money but we don't have any say in that either.

With no history and fewer highly ranked teams in it, but a better arena.

Nope, but I'm sure JDubbs would.

All the good seats between the blue lines were full of Maroon and Gold. In a building that holds over three times as many people, why weren't Mankato's season-ticket holders the first priority for a Mankato "home game?" Shouldn't I have gotten seats at least as good as my Mankato seats?

I've never been able to get an answer to that
That's your athletic departments fault. I am sure they figured since they already had your money they would screw you over and leave the seats in the middle for the Gopher fans who paid a higher price than you paid. That doesn't surprise me since those same people backed out of a agreement they have with other teams as well. They must be a classy bunch.....

I don' think it is going to work. With 5 teams in the state one of the teams not named the Gophers will not be in it every year. It won't catch on like the beanpot because not every team will be there every year. There is no way I am buying tickets if the Huskies are not playing adn I would think most UMD, Mankato and BSU would be the same way. If that is the case then all the tourney season ticket holders will be Gopher fans and then why even have it?

If I was SCSU I would tell the Gophers we will make it easy on you guys and opt out of the Tourney as long as you agree to play us home and home Every year.....

Ignoring how you belabor your point about Mankato opting out of home-and-homes, it doesn't seem to me like MavsFan is actually blaming the Gophers for it. Maybe s/he is and I'm misinterpreting something, but maybe MavsFan and others (like me) are equally as concerned about their own teams' athletic departments selling their teams out as they are about UMTC's willingness to exploit those ADs' scramble to keep playing the Gophers, seemingly at all cost. tUMD, SCSU, BSU and MSUM have athletic directors who are going along with this (so far) despite the colossal failure of a similar event.

as long as she is blaming the athletic department I agree. Its not the Gophers fault the MSUM athletic depart is pathetic.... This whole Tourney thing is a joke. If all the teams can't play every year there is no reason to have it. All it is going to turn into is a place for all the Gopher fans who can't get into Marriucci to go to to see their team play. It will never be split even seat wise for each school so it will never work.....

As far as revenue it doesn't have to be even splits of seats to work. There are more Gopher fans, that's not a bias, its a fact. So if they get them to fill the building, its a financial success. Meaning the other teams will want to keep doing it. $$$ is running the show.

I don't care about money. I get money runs the show and that is why they will do it for at least a few years, but it will just end up to be 90% gopher fans and that doesn't make it a great event.... Eventually teams like SCSU and UMD will pull out because their fans will be sick of it.

A couple of things I thought of after reading all of the posts on this thread...

                              1) The state of MN doesn't provide a single dime of money to the UofM's athletic department. It is self funded as of 3 years ago.
                              2) There is no "extra" Big Ten TV money that the U gets from Hockey. That money is already accounted for and is a big reason for #1 above.
                              3) I think the revenue sharing from the WCHA tourney is being over-stated. It is the sole revenue source for the league. It's used to pay all of their expenses for the year - think referee's, travel expenses, commissioner, etc...I'd be surprised if there is anything left over for the teams.
                              4) I imagine that UofM will continue to go to AA, or AF in the future, since it allows them two extra games every other year that don't count against overall totals.

As for the tourney, I like the idea and would buy tickets to see it every year. Especially since I won't be needing my WCHA FF tickets that I have had since the first year of the tourney.

                                3) You are dead wrong, WCHA schools currently get around a $100,000 check after all those expenses are paid for. Some years are obviously better than others based on number of first round series that go to 3 games and the capacity of the hosting arenas.
