Patronik you have been posting for a while but Maine brings the state of Maine when they play, Lowell brings a neighborhood! Just the facts.
Sorry to bring facts to your irrational argument:

Lowell - 4897 avg in 12 games/5102 avg in 11 Hockey East games
Maine - 4407 avg in 12 games/4450 avg in 0 Hockey East games

    Deal with it.

Have to agree, Maine has shown over the years they are one of the best traveling teams around and have alot of fans in Mass that would make the trip to Worcester or Bridgeport, Lowell can not say that. Can use all the stats of home games this year, that means nothing for traveling, and after missing the NCAA for a few years got a feeling Maine will be very well represented at either site. Any site would want Maine over Lowell for an attendance perspective

Irrational argument? Listing home attendance numbers is great and all but they are largely irrelevant when talking about away games. Maine consistently has one of if not the best travelling fan base in hockeyeast. Ask a fan of any other team if they see more Maine or Lowell fans at their games. Not even close.
It may be 10 below, Under 5 feet of snow,
But no matter where we go, WE ALL LOVE ORONO!!!

As a UNH fan have to say its not even close, and with all the Maine fans in Southern Maine, NH and Mass they would travel very well to a close by Regional. Remember when UNH and Maine were both in the Albany REgional, cant remember what year, it was all UNH and Maine fans there, and probalby more Maine fans, like I said before have shown they travel well. Lowell only gets a handful of fans at the Whitt and its an easy trip from Lowell

Because a regular season game at the Whitt is going to have the same pull as the team's first NCAA game in over a decade?

            Solid point.

The point is, with Maine, not only do you have a larger alumni base, you have an entire state behind the team. Fenway this year was a great example, more Maine fans than any other school and yet the team traveled 200 plus miles, but alumni are all over and it is an easy trip from Portland south. Maine had twice as many fans as UMASS! And this was before Maine really started to turn the season around.

Lowell at this point does not have a following outside of the alumni base. Sure there are some in the community who have adopted Lowell as their team, but will they travel? No one is taking a shot at Lowell, and attendance is very misleading when you are handing out free tickets left and right (which is great to draw people to a great product) and you seat 6,000 plus.

Time will tell and I hope Lowell continues their strong play into the tournament.

Wait til you see the prices for the first round series. That'll keep those Lowell fans home anyway.

Yeah the prices are absurd. My folks were interested in seeing the Ft. Wayne regional because it's a big minor league hockey town and they live there. But then they saw the prices and just got Komet tickets for a fraction of the price in the same building.

Fan bases distance is not really the reason regionals attendance sucks.

I would love for all Hockey East teams to travel well. The truth is no fan bases in the east travel as well as Maine and New Hampshire. Look around the Garden during the Hockey East playoffs. Even if Maine and New Hampshire aren't there they probably outnumber fans from Merrimack and Lowell fans there to watch their teams. If Lowell gets an eastern regional AND they show that the fan base will follow them then we can add Lowell to the list. Right now, Hockey East teams that can carry a regional are Maine, New Hampshire and the two Boston schools. This isn't meant as a pot shot at Lowell. They don't have the tradition the other schools have. Neither does Merrimack. If they continue success and build a strong fan base then the NCAA will be pleased as punch because that's more tickets they can sell and one less worry about attendance at eastern regionals.

Well shows who travels better then your home att. Like was said before nothing against Lowell, I hope they do travel well, but Maine has an overwhelming history of showing they travel where Lowell has none. Would love to see Lowell go to Worchester or Bridgeport and bang the place out, but there is no way to say they will. Odds are much better that Maine would, that is just what history says. Would love to be proven wrong, but I have no reason to think I would be

The BC win really messes up the pairwise.

                        1 Ferris State (CC) 31
                        2 Boston Coll (HE) 29
                        3 Boston Univ (HE) 28
                        4 Minn-Duluth (WC) 28
                        5 Michigan (CC) 27
                        6 Mass-Lowell (HE) 27
                        7 Denver U (WC) 24
                        8 Maine (HE) 23
                        9 Union (EC) 22
                        10 Northern Mich (CC) 22
                        11 Merrimack (HE) 21
                        12 Mich State (CC) 20
                        13 Miami (CC) 19
                        14 Minnesota (WC) 18
                        15 Ohio State (CC) 17
                        ---
                        16 North Dakota (WC) 17
                        17 Cornell (EC) 17

We have to avoid a UMD-Minnesota first round game AND we have to protect Ferris State as the overall #1 seed, and sending them to St. Paul to play the Gophers is hardly protecting them.

                        We could do

                        Code:
Bridgeport	Worcester	St. Paul	Green Bay
Minn-Duluth	Boston Coll	Boston U	Ferris St
                        Michigan	Denver Lowell Maine
Merrimack	Mich State	Northern Mich	Union
Miami Ohio State	Minnesota	AHA Champ
but that is a total disaster for attendance.

So, since Ferris has to fly anyway...

                        Code:
Bridgeport	Worcester	St. Paul	Green Bay
Ferris St	Boston Coll	Boston U	Minn-Duluth
                        Maine Lowell Denver Michigan
Union Northern Mich	Mich State Merrimack
AHA Champ	Ohio State	Minnesota	Miami
It would be so much easier if the Gophers either move back up to a #3 seed or fall out altogether!

Trying to reward as many high seeds as possible (BU is the one who gets screwed as you've already pointed out), I was able to come up with:

                          St. Paul:

                          1. BU
                          2. Michigan
                          3. Merrimack
                          4. Minnesota

                          Green Bay:

                          1. Ferris State
                          2. Denver
                          3. Northern Michigan
                          4. Air Force

                          Worcester:

                          1. BC
                          2. UML
                          3. Michigan State
                          4. Ohio State

                          Bridgeport:

                          1. UMD
                          2. Maine
                          3. Union
                          4. Miami

I suppose swapping UML and Maine would help my Bridgeport problem.

Ya, I just don't see the committee sending the #1 overall seed to St. Paul so they can play Minnesota.
