In this particular instance perhaps PoE = Sodbuster Kenny Jay?
That's him. Given the name for having a local landscaping biz on the side. His whole career was for being a fall guy and making opponents look good. Making the stars look like stars.

What's the ruling on shootouts for WCHA league games? Can The BELT change hands based on a shootout win or should that be considered a tie, like it does in the overall record and for NCAA seeding/ranking purposes. ARM, you have been appointed Commishioner of The BELT and TTT has been named Deputy Commish. Just don't let BC ever touch the thing because you'll have a hard time ripping it out of TTT's kung fu grip.

I have every confidence that commish ARM and Deputy commish TTT will state that the BELT does NOT change hands on a tie;)

Shootouts determine a conference point only, and are ignored at the national level. In the case of a tie, the team holding the Belt before the contest retains possession.

I'm a little annoyed that the belt went back out west because now I'll have to wait until March for BC to get it.

And yeah shootouts are ties, naturally.

Sequined jacket...check. Mythical D1 Championship Belt...check. I was just looking at UMD's schedule to see when The Belt might change hands again. My guess is the North Dakota series at the end of January. North Dakota wins the first game and they tie the 2nd game. NoDak gets out of Dodge with The Belt.

The Gophers lost the Belt to North Dakota on Oct. 30th.
Ohio State had it for a day in mid-November then lost it back to North Dakota the very next day.
Minnesota Duluth wrestled the Belt away from NoDak in a tough 1-0 victory on Nov. 21st.

UMD hosts Harvard twice this weekend. Here's hoping the Crimson bring the mythical Belt back to Beantown for a bit.

On a related note, the four time holder of the AWA Championship belt, Nick Bockwinkel, passed away on November 14.

RIP to a great champion, the kind of champion so great that he turned his back to you because you DID NOT DESERVE to see him from the front.

No question that Bockwinkel was a great champion, but he owed much of his success to his manager, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, who was sometimes known to slip a foreign object into Bockwinkel's hand at just the right time. We should all have such a manager in our corner.

Championship Belt update:

Princeton had the belt until this past Saturday when they lost it to Harvard.
Harvard apparently partied a bit hard in celebration of regaining the belt and only held it for a few days.
BC thumped Harvard on Tuesday and plans on keeping it through the end of the season.
Somebody named Amanda came knocking and wants her belt back :)
