Put me solidly in the quality over quantity camp. I'd rather see them work to line up something legit rather than arbitrary firing.

To a certain point. You're not going to win very many games on 15-18 shots per night.

        I'll take both.

I'd like to see the blueliners unload on net. If they don't have a clean shot, put a shot towards a Wildcat in front so he can tip in a better shot. Dirty rebounds count the same as beautiful goal.

I understand the quality vs quantity... But when there is NEITHER? Start to shoot the d*mn puck!

A good question for Matt Wellens tomorrow will be what the scoring chances were on the weekend.

The series last year (I believe it was last year) where they beat Ferris 2-1 and 3-1...The Cats were outshot 32-24 on Friday and 33-18 on Saturday night.

Last year in the five games which they gave up the most shots: 1. 53 Shots (tie 4-4) 2. 53 Shots (Won 3-2) 3. 52 Shots (Won 4-2) 4. 50 shots (loss 6-1) 5. 46 shots (Tie 2-2)

In games they gave up over 40 shots on goal, they had a winning record as well. (4-2-2)

                From a redhawk fan,

I thought that Miami played one of our best games of the season on friday night as far as moving the puck and generating quality scoring chances. Coreau was unbelievable in net friday night. One save he was completely out of the crease but stuck his glove back and snagged it. Saturday was move evenly matched but he let in some soft goals. GL the rest of the way, I think the 'Cats could make some serious noise in the tourney.

I watched both games online, and while shots may be what is being dismissed as a problem, that wasn't what worried me; it was puck possession. Both nights Miami absolutely dominated puck possession. We looked like we were on a penalty kill all night. I would bet puck possession, especially on Friday night, was at least 2:1.

And Coreau was absolutely out of this world good. He has raw talent that is going to be increasingly more dangerous as his career here goes on. He's something special.

If that is the case, why did Ellie get the start Saturday? At this point of the season Id rather see NMU pick a goalie and stick with him. Some consistency for the team down the stretch would be good I think.

But you have to have an open lane to shoot the puck. Rapping it off the defending forward's shin pads leading to an odd man rush the other way is quite counter productive. Miami did an outstanding job clogging up the shooting lanes from the point.

Coreau started and played until Miami's 4th goal on Saturday, played 43:43 and stopped 26 of 30 shots. Ellingson relieved at 3:58 of the 3rd period and stopped 8 of 10.

And standing around at the blueline waving at the puck as it goes out of the zone after passing it back and forth achieves the same result. A potential odd man rush for the opponents.

If they're clogging the shooting lanes, then get two guys down in next to the net. One in front, one behind. Have the blueliner rim it around the boards to the guy in back. Keep two blueliners back. Now, when Miami decides to attack the puck carrier, either send it out to a blueliner for a one-timer, or to the in close player.

Conversely, if you have a cannon of a shot at the blueline, opponents will quit trying to block those shots.

A little less hesitation wouldn't hurt either. Those shooting lanes get clogged when the players sit with the puck pump faking a slap shot.

I understand that things happen. Teams sometimes won't make tape to tape passes. Players aren't going to be positioned just right. Bounces can go either way. But a 6-0 schlacking with 16 SOG is embarassing.
