The only comments I had on your list are:
    1) North Dakota listed its victory over Michigan Tech as 03/12/1971 (not 03/11). I find March 12th much more likely, but I couldn't find game-by-game results from Minnesota or Wisconsin (the other two teams in that half of the WCHA bracket) to corroborate and the WCHA site didn't have anything on it, so at this point I just have conflicting information.
    2) Nebraska Omaha swept Denver in their first season as a D-I program (after upgrading from club). So, while they weren't eligible for the D-I title, they were a play-up program. Is there a judgement from others more learned?

If UNO is deemed eligible for the D2 Play-up Belt, then the Belt follows this path:
    Code:
    11/09/1997 Denver
    11/15/1997 Nebraska Omaha
    12/05/1997 Minnesota Duluth
    12/19/1997 Alaska Anchorage
    12/20/1997 Minnesota Duluth
    02/27/1998 North Dakota
    instead of this path:
    Code:
    11/09/1997 Denver
    11/21/1997 North Dakota
    12/13/1997 St. Cloud
    01/16/1998 Minnesota-Duluth
    02/27/1998 North Dakota

    Yessir.

I'd also like to add the "Overall Play-up Belt" which allows for either D2 or D3 programs to claim it.

01/05/2008 North Dakota || North Dakota's athletic department upgrades to D-I after the 2007-8 season and takes the Play-up Belt with them

*St. Lawrence and Clarkson played three times in the 1966-7 season. Clarkson won the first game 5-2. Clarkson claims to have lost the second game 4-6 and tied the third 4-4 while St. Lawrence claims to have tied the second game and won the third. No matter what, St. Lawrence holds the D3 Play-up Belt at the end of the 1967 season.

**Both Clarkson and St. Lawrence claim to have lost the 2/27/68 game in Canton, 8-5. Based on Clarkson's reported 11-5 ECAC record and St. Lawrence's reported 7-6-1 record at Appleton that season, I believe that Clarkson won and keeps the D3 Play-up Belt. However, this contradicts Clarkson's reported 16-7-1 overall record. If St. Lawrence won, then the belt follows the following path:
    01/09/1968 Clarkson
    02/27/1968 St. Lawrence
    01/14/1969 Clarkson (rejoins main path)

    • Re: The College Hockey Championship Belt Part III

Since North Dakota upgraded their athletic program in the summer of 2008 (while they were holders of the Play-up Belt), all games between Play-up teams on October 10, 2008 awarded a new Belt.

      Code:
      Belt 1:
10/10/2008 St. Cloud State defeats Mercyhurst
11/01/2008 Minnesota Duluth / merges with Belt 2
      12/06/2008 (merges with Belt 3)

      Belt 2:
10/10/2008 Minnesota Duluth ties Lake Superior. Minnesota Duluth wins the shootout
      10/11/2008 (merges with Belt 4)
      10/24/2008 Alaska Anchorage
      10/25/2008 Minnesota Duluth
      11/01/2008 (merges with Belt 1)

      Belt 3:
10/10/2008 Lake Superior ties Minnesota Duluth
      10/11/2008 Michigan Tech
10/17/2008 Colorado College / merges with Belt 5
11/14/2008 Minnesota State / merges with Belt 6
      11/15/2008 Colorado College
      11/21/2008 Alaska Anchorage
      11/22/2008 Colorado College
12/06/2008 Minnesota Duluth / merges with Belt 1

      Belt 4:
10/10/2008 Northern Michigan defeats Michigan Tech
10/11/2008 Minnesota Duluth / merges with Belt 2

      Belt 5:
      10/10/2008 Colorado College defeats Alabama-Huntsville
      10/17/2008 (merges with Belt 3)

      Belt 6:
10/10/2008 Minnesota State defeats Bemidji State
      10/17/2008 (merges with Original Belt)
      11/15/2008 (merges with Belt 3)

      Original Belt:
10/17/2008 Minnesota State / merges with Belt 6
With all of the belts merged, it continues in the following manner:

      Code:
      01/09/2009 St. Cloud State
      02/07/2009 Alaska Anchorage
      11/20/2009 Minnesota State
      11/21/2009 Alaska Anchorage
      11/27/2009 Colorado College
      11/28/2009 Alaska Anchorage
      12/04/2009 St. Cloud State
      12/12/2009 Colorado College
      01/08/2010 Minnesota Duluth
      01/22/2010 Bemidji State
      02/27/2010 Nebraska Omaha
      03/13/2010 Ferris State
      03/19/2010 Northern Michigan
      03/26/2010 St. Cloud State
      10/09/2010 Clarkson
      01/03/2011 Minnesota Duluth
      02/11/2011 St. Cloud State
      03/12/2011 Minnesota Duluth
      03/17/2011 Bemidji State
      10/14/2011 Colorado College
      11/04/2011 Nebraska Omaha
      11/05/2011 Colorado College
      12/09/2011 Alaska Anchorage
      12/10/2011 Colorado College
      01/14/2012 St. Cloud State
      02/17/2012 Alaska Anchorage
      02/18/2012 St. Cloud State
      02/25/2012 Michigan Tech
      03/02/2012 Colorado College
      03/10/2012 Michigan Tech
Now, I just have a couple of comments / questions left.
      1) There was an effort made in the Original Belt (obviously) and the Conference Belts to determine if the National Champion held said belt at the end of the season and they were awarded an Alternate if they did not. That practice was dropped from the regional and state belts. Should such an effort still be made?

      2) Belt 2 / 3 that was awarded in the October 10, 2008 scramble. The game was a tie. UMD beat LSSU in a shoot-out. What is the ruling of the crowd?

      3) Naming should be consistent. I used whatever was used in collegehockeystat's 2011-12 schedule / standings page, which usually corresponds to the desire of the school's Sports Information Director at this time. But, it changes (see: Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State, UMass Lowell, etc.). What names should be used?

      4) Are we sure that US International, U. Illinois-Chicago, Northern Arizona, and Kent State (there were probably a couple others, but US International and UIC were the two big ones who stuck around for awhile) have been D-I for their entire tenure? They are D-I now, but I don't know much about their athletic history.

      5) Personally, I don't think that any of the three of these need to be actively posted, but I'll probably continue to track them at the least.

      6) You may have noticed that I know believe SLU's game-by-game results more strongly than Clarkson's and I have changed the 01/10/1967 St. Lawrence (may be 02/28/1967) entry to 02/28/1967 St. Lawrence (may be 01/10/1967). I think that is more accurate.

      7) I would greatly appreciate if someone (bumpreader?) can double-check this belt. I found a lot of discrepancies between my D-II belt and his, mostly from mistakes that I made.

        7) I would greatly appreciate if someone (bumpreader?) can double-check this belt. I found a lot of discrepancies between my D-II belt and his, mostly from mistakes that I made.
        1) Personally, I only believe that an alternate original Belt should be awarded to the national champion if it doesn't have it anyway. OTOH, if say a non-holder of the HEA Belt wins the HEA tourney it is awarded an alternate HEA Belt. Since there are no state tourneys this doesn't occur for state Belts. (Similarly for your play-up Belts.)

        2) I agree with what you did for Belts 2 and 3.

        3) It really should be the name at the time, but I have used a single name for every school since it simplifies the Excel coding for calculating time with Belt for each school. No one ever complained.

        4) I don't think that they were.

        5) ?

        6) I didn't subscribe to the IcHN until 68-69, so I can't help you there. The 1968 NCAA Guide has scores for the 1967 but without dates.

        7) I'll leave that to bumpreader or someone else.

I should just look it up, but I am lazy.

I don't need the dates, just the order of the games (it's explained at the bottom of the code section). SLU and Clarkson played three times in the 1966-7 season. Clarkson won the first. The other two games were a tie and a SLU win, but I'm not sure which order they came in.

Perhaps. I haven't figured out what to do with this database yet. I certainly don't want to hoard it but it's riddled with errors. You've seen how many errors are in media guides - you found three or four errors in just this tiny slice of the data. Plus there's a high possibility of errors in translation by me.

Ideally I'd do something like this: http://www.jhowell.net/cf/scores/ScoresIndex.htm
What I have from both Minnesota and Wisconsin has them playing on 3/11, for what that's worth. A quick google news search didn't find anything useful either.

Maybe Ralph can check this one.
                        2) Nebraska Omaha swept Denver in their first season as a D-I program (after upgrading from club). So, while they weren't eligible for the D-I title, they were a play-up program. Is there a judgement from others more learned?
Good catch. I agree with your correction for this one.

I'll spend more time checking on these later, but I think there's only one problem with the D3 belt. The playup belt goes through this same path. I got:

                        Code:
                        < 11/30/1974 Clarkson
                        ---
                        > 02/23/1974 Rensselaer
                        > 12/07/1974 Clarkson
On 2/23/1974, RPI says they beat St. Lawrence 7-1, while St. Lawrence says they won 6-3. I think that RPI won because St. Lawrence's record wouldn't match their own media guide if they won that game on 2/23, and their ECAC record wouldn't match the official ECAC standings either.

The IcHN doesn't give dates but an article states " "At the Wisconsin site, Minnesota edged the host Badgers in first night action while the next night league champ Michigan Tech, a real front-runner all season, was stunned by upstart North Dakote, 6-4." I think that means 3/12 since elsewhere the tourney dates were 3/11-13.

IcHN says RPI won 7-1. Even more convincingly, my game program has it as 7-1 in RPI's favor.

I found the discrepancy. RPI and SLU played on 2/9/74 and 2/23/74. The scores were 6-3 SLU and 7-1 RPI with both teams winning at home. St. Lawrence believes that they played in Troy and then in Canton. Rensselaer claims that they played in Canton and then in Troy. Ralph, your records show that the game in Troy was played on the 23rd? That would mean that both the D-III and Overall Playup Belts need to be adjusted to what bumpreader provided.
