School-Record 13 Women's Ice Hockey Players Named to 2010-11 Hockey East All-Academic Team
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Thirteen student-athletes on the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team were named to the 2010-11 WHEA All-Academic Team, as announced Wednesday afternoon by Hockey East. The total of 13 student-athletes is the highest by the Wildcats in the nine-year history of the league; the previous best was 12 in the 2007-08 season.

Senior forward Molly Morrison (South Burlington, Vt.) received further distinction with her selection to the HEA Academic All-Star Team, which acknowledges the top grade-point-averages by position (three forwards, two defensemen, one goaltender).

Kayley Herman (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) was also given special recognition as a Distinguished Scholar, which means the senior goaltender recorded a 3.0 or better GPA every semester during her four-year career.

Julie Allen (Brampton, Ontario) was the other UNH senior feted and Sarah Cuthbert (East Falmouth, Mass.) was the lone junior representative for the Wildcats. This marked the first Hockey East All-Academic Team honor for both players.

The sophomores who made the grade in 2010-11 were Katie Brock (Marblehead, Mass.), Kailey Chappell (Pickering, Ontario), Bryanna Farris (Carleton Place, Ontario), Paige Goloubef (Oakville, Ontario), Kristine Horn (Utica, Mich.) and Brittany Skudder (Plainview, N.Y.). It is the second All-Academic Team honor for both Brock and Skudder.

The freshmen triumvirate of Hannah Armstrong (Aurora, Ontario), Nicole Gifford (Peterborough, Ontario) and Arielle O'Neill (St. Catharines, Ontario) were the other three 'Cats named to this year's All-Academic Team.

Hockey East announced 86 student-athletes were named to the 2010-11 WHEA All-Academic Team. Each student-athlete achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 in every academic semester in which she competed during the 2010-11 season.

Interesting video on the making of a Bauer skate there. No wonder they are so expensive, given the amount of work that goes into each pair.

A few more photos up on the new FB, including last year's Co-Captain, Courtney Birchard on the ice with Team Canada (#14).

Courtney was selected to participate in the IIHF High Performance Women's Camp in Slovakia. She will join players from 16 other countries in an effort to help develop the game around the globe.

The schedule is nearly finalized, and should be ready for public display soon. Minnesota, anyone

I would be if she still had eligibility remaining...

Unfortunately, that is most certainly just a typo. :-/

Wrong thread I know, but I'm very interested in seeing how well Cornell's recruiting manages to fill the skates of this year's seniors.

So...3 weeks from the start of the season, and Athletics can't be bothered to post an updated roster?

What is the story on losing a top verbal to NU?

Right now the roster is not set in stone, and rather than put up an inaccurate or suggestive roster, they are waiting until they are ready to put up their final roster. Not a function of being "bothered", it's just a matter of being right the first time. Official practices don;t begin until September 17 (this Saturday) - it won't be long.

As for a verbal changing her mind - a line from The Sound of Music (paraphrased) sums it up completely - when God (or your favorite hockey higher power) closes a door, he opens a window. Although it hasn't been as common as we might initially think, adolescent girls do. from time to time, change their minds. You can't really lose a player you never had, and until this November, nothing is set in stone, and last year or last month, or even yesterday's best fit may not actually be the best option. Plenty of good players still weighing their options, and the coaching staff will fill that "vacancy" and any other that might materialize with players that will not settle for being anything other than a Wildcat.

                              Oh, and check yer rep~
