I was thrilled to hear about Sweeney's contract extension. I think with Sweeney on board, this schools chances for success in the coming season are really good. I have my fingers crossed, I really think they can go all the way this year. I was wondering if anyone has seen the fort worth cultural center? I am going to be in the area in the coming weeks, and would like to know if anyone thinks this is something worth checking out. I am fascinated by native American culture, and would really enjoy something like this I think.

In your excitement you seemed to have miss-spelled "Seeley".

Great first win over #8 Mercyhurst. Elena Orlando scores only goal for a 1-0 victory.

Did the freshmen goalie get hurt in the 3rd period vs Northeastern? If not, I think that's a brutal. The coach giving the kid the hook on her first collegiate start? Very poor coaching decision.

She did not appear to be hurt. She skated off on her own power with no trainers attending to her. She gave up two quick goals to end the 2nd and another one early in the third. She made some great stops but it was clear that NU had gotten to her.

In the long run I think it was a bad decision to rattle the confidence of a young player but for the game it was needed.

It's funny how hockey is so different as compared to baseball/softball in this regard. In the latter you EXPECT the starting pitcher to get pulled when he or she is having a real bad outing, even in the early/mid innings when fatigue is not the issue. But in hockey, making a goalie change quite often raises eyebrows, and people question what impact it will have on the goaltender's confidence. Or maybe the coach decides that a goalie substitution might alter the way the rest of the team is playing, hoping for a change in momentum. Not saying it's a good or a bad thing, just thinking of the difference in the two sports.

Yeah, I suppose you're right... Team does come first, but that will be a big hit on the kid's confidence (as you mentioned). Thanks for replying.

Interesting. Good points. And, of course, if she IS rattled, it is a caring act to pull her. How it is done is what most matters. And that has to do with the relationship between coach and players. If good he/she can do about anything- players will not take exception, feel abused, belittled. If the fans saw she was struggling then likely it was then seen as appropriate and no blame (to take her out.) So depends. In baseball while fans do expect the 'hook' to quickly follow poor performance, other factors can apply- who is in the bullpen, how long has this pitcher been in the game, etc. To name a few. But also that is professional and the word alone draws forth performance expectations. And money is involved.

You can only depend on one player for so long. I touched on this last season (lots of criticism) but hopefully she can rebound. Good luck.

Really no difference in college baseball/softball where there also isn't any money involved. If a pitcher is getting hammered he/she is pulled in most cases - just a question of when. I was at a college mens hockey game tonight where the starting goalie -a senior who led his team to the Frozen Four two years ago - was pulled after giving up 5 goals. He probably wasn't real happy about it, but goalies (just like pitchers) need to be able to bounce back mentally and come ready to play their next game.
