Not a real good comparison, considering RPI's program was in better shape than Tech's is now!

I suspect that if you get Jim Montgomery, he will jump to Maine whenever that job opens.

I suspect that just about every candidate we're looking at has a job (or 5) that he would jump at if given the chance. Rud is probably looking at the CC job whenever it opens, Mel was Michigan, Eades would be at least UND, Hastings is UNO, etc.

He was met in St. Paul. There was an offer to visit because they got close to an agreement, but then he pulled back. He has been to Houghton numerous times over the past 30 years, and was well aware of what the school offered and didn't offer.

Word is he was looking at the possibility of a coach-in-waiting situation, where his top assistant would be the next coach when he retired. There was an issue over the length and amount of funding it would take to get that done.

Well if nobody wants to relocate here in the land of warm fresh pasties, there is always PLAN B and that is for Suzanne to use her alumni: Brian Hannon (head coaching experience), Mark Maroste (assistant coach experience), Randy McKay (no head coaching experience), and Tiger Pierce (goalie coach).

You forgot Dean Blais would jump to International Falls, Minnesota to hunt and fish in his retirement home. Either way MTU is between a rock and a hard place.

In which case, we may as well just give up.

No, but as a fan, I will, if they hire anyone on that list of tech alums a couple posts ago.

Technically, if Tech can prove that we can't find a qualified American to take the job, we could hire a Canadian. Houghton would seem like a garden spot compared to most cities in the Great White North.

If that is correct, and I do think it's a very plausible scenario, it shows the thought that funding was not to be an issue to be false.
