    Frozen 4 Minny-Like's
    1. SNC National Champions.
    2. Four great teams and fans that represented.
    3. Ridder Arena was a wonderful place to watch a hockey game.
    4. Meeting posters with other teams from past Frozen 4's and new posters-all great fans of D3.
    5. 4 1/2 hour drive from Green Bay to Minny.
    6. Great night life and things to do in Minny.
    7. Size of SNC fan base that made the trip.
    8. SNC National Champions.

    Frozen 4-Dislike's
    1. Taxi cab drivers who did not speak English and did not know where anything was in Minny including U of M or Ridder.
    2. The food at Ridder. The hot dog that I ordered had to be covered in k up so I didnt have to look at it. terrible!
    3. Grain Belt beer at the bar. Again, terrible!

    Other Comments
    1. If the powers of D3 hockey continue to put the Frozen 4 in Lake Placid (East) for 2 years, I would suggest Ridder to be the West arena. All in all a great place to watch hockey with the correct amount of seats and space to accomodate.

I am sure that my list could go on and on but I would rather hear from other posters on their experience!

    1. Hooray -- BTW, the Catholics are 3-1 in the last 4 FF's (missed that stat Webb - sorry). Catholici in III-I iiiior's quadripes glacialis
    2. Yep
    3. Second that.
    4. Wish I did not have to do some work during the games. Sometimes it's better to be a fan.
    5. 5.5 hr plane flights from Dulles. Next yr it is a 7+ hr car ride to Placid. I'll be there.
    6. I was in Roseville. My night life was dr. Pepper, popcorn, chocolate ice cream and writing to deadine.
    7. That giant sigh of relief we heard at 10:00 PM on Saturday came from your side of the rink????
    8. see #1
    9. Met mjbeckman at the airport. Had linner with him @ Harey Carey's at Midway. Great guy!
    10. Press people were top notch.

    Dislikes
    1. Drove a rental car.
    2. Rink food. The hot dogs on Friday were better than the hot dogs on Saturday. But mustard cures all. I was looking for someone who put ketchup on Mac & cheese.
    3. Went sober for the weekend.
    4. A certain someone oversleeping a Sunday brunch.

    Others
    1. Liked Ridder. The DECC / Amsoil may work. They're a bit larger than Ridder I think. Do we do a 2 East / 1 West for the foreseeable future? Where is Hoffman Estates, IL? It looks like a nice barn. Or, the National Sports Center in St. Cloud??? That's 200x100, so at least the championships will be consistent on ice size.

      *Ridder is a terrific venue.
      *4 deserving teams.
*4 good fan bases who handled themselves well.
*For me personally 1 good friend in Northfield and free lodging with friends in NE Minneapolis.
      *The 4.5 hour car trip.
*Related to last 2 points, it allowed me to bring my family when LP is just too far.
*Loved the schedule change so I didn't have to choose between beating the crap out of my liver watching the hoops tournament and going to this. I got to do both without conflict.
*Terrific options for other types of entertainment and establishments.
*Easy in and out policy. I don't smoke, but it was nice to get out easily between games for a bite and a brew and to give others tickets who were meeting me there.
*Big Ten Championship drought as listed on nearby TCF Stadium's facade was older than I am...and I'm 40.
      *The overall result.

      Dislikes
*The upside down W on my ticket envelope sitting on my counter.
*Food prices like a professional venue with the selection of a local place.

*I put this here because it isn't an issue with Minnesota at all, but it stinks not to have the games or at least the championship game on some form of TV. Whether it is some form of ESPN or CBS College Sports it's such a wonderful promotion for our sport to have it where people can conveniently watch it from home or get together to watch.
*Duluth has a couple of options, venues in Chicagoland could be intriguing, St. Cloud could probably host although there isn't much there, and of course I'd be all over the Resch Center hosting but I don't see it happening. Overall I could be OK with a 2 year Lake Placed and 1 year Ridder rotation for a while.

Some thoughts from out East ....
        * The trip out for me was easy ... U-S Air Burlington to Philly to Minny ... but then I didn't pick up the tab ... the boss did.
        * Stayed out in Bloomington near the Airport and the M of A ... got around via rental car ... it was quite reasonably priced ... although again I didn't pay for it, the boss did.
        * All and all Ridder was an excellent venue ... there were some complaints about the ice ... although those seemed to be centered more around practice day on Thursday than on game nights ... while the crowds were good they weren't as good as the ones we see in Lake Placid ... but the absence of a Minny team certainly had a lot to do with that and both the St. Norbert and Adrian fans showed up in big numbers ... a lot of Adrian people stayed at our hotel ... it was great to get to know a number of them (you).
        * If a 2 East(Lake Placid)/1West format is going to be in vogue I personally don't see the need to look for another Western site ... if The U is willing, Ritter seems like as good a venue as you could ask for.
        * Any thoughts on a future hybrid tournament ... men and women on the same weekend at the same site?
        * Oh and from Norwich, congrats to St. Norbert's ... it was your turn ... first Jones ... then O'Brien .. who is next, Roberto Luongo?

I think the hybrid tournament is a great concept. Make it work like the ECAC E did at Krietzberg. One gender's Semis on Friday. A triple header on Saturday with the other two semis and the first final on Saturday night. Then play the remaining final on Sunday afternoon. If it works at Krietzberg, it would work at Placid

            PuckVoice:

Very interesting comments! Appreciate them very much. As far as the numbers at Ridder vs. Lake Placid, I agree that it will most likely never reach the numbers that are seen at LP assuming that Platty, Norwich, Middlebury, Oswego, or Elmira are in the tourney. I believe that it was three years ago when none of the local teams made it and LP was basically empty. Not trying to rip on LP because I personally have had great times there for the tourneys, just trying to make the point that high volumes of fans at LP depends upon a couple or three of the teams mentioned making it to the Frozen 4.

I'd love the concept of combining both men and women. I'd love to see two semis one day, two more semis the next, and both finals on a 3rd day. Unfortunately I don't think the NCAA would go for it to have to pay for another hotel night.

That would be ideal, but going 2-3-1 wouldn't create any extra hotel stays for the NCAA. That way the finals follow the semis by one day.

I like this concept as well. But, I'm not sure the women's tournament is quite ready for a neutral site yet.

I feel a host team is much needed for attendance figures right now. RIT did a fantastic job hosting the tournament this year and had great crowd numbers even with the D-I men playing in the Atlantic Hockey championship the same night downtown.

Maybe once the St. Norbert women are a national powerhouse (fully expecting them to be right there in 2 years after a solid opening season), that might help lend itself toward that idea with SNC having two teams in the FF nearly every year.

The only other program that could say they could somewhat consistently do that might be Plattsburgh or maybe an outside shot at Norwich.

If the same teams rule the roost with both genders, I think this idea could be very successful.

But, if you've got a women's final four of Amherst, Gustavus Adolphus, Middlebury, and RIT along with a men's final four of Norwich, St. Norbert, Oswego, Plattsburgh etc...I don't think it'd work all too well for the women's games.

Are you talking about when Gustavus and Neumann made it to the finals?

That game still drew 3141, more than any other non-LP final. Granted, in a bigger arena it may look less. The semifinals (with Hobart also playing that day) drew 3036.

The first year when Plattsburgh played St. Norbert in the final, it drew 4770. The semifinals drew 5600 when Norwich and Elmira were also playing that day.

No one entered attendance figures for the third year -- idiots. But, I thought I remember reading a LP press release that stated the largest crowd ever for a D3 final.

This year in the Ridder, the semifinals drew 1761 and the final drew 1741. Definitely better numbers than I was afraid we were going to see.

I am not sure combining the tournament is good for the women's game...it might be more convenient for fans, but that should be pretty far down the list IMO.

While we are tossing ideas around, why not have the men's tournament on a campus? A D3 CAMPUS

There are several rinks that qualify capacity wise when you consider actual traveling attendance vs local walk-up attendance...sure, some locals and students would be shut out (but most are not traveling now to LP or Minny).

TV (real TV for local distribution) could be used to handle a situation where the host is in the final four with community watch parties, etc...

You would have a guaranteed sellout, I think, whether your local team was in or not - I am betting enough student and local fan interest would take the seats that don't get used by the visitors....

Visiting teams bidding (for charity) to have the Local Student Section - why not four student sections - wear their colors and root for them!!! (a stretch, I know...)

                          Just some random thoughts...

                          Load, point and shoot now...

EDIT - I wrote this before Russell wrote his stats, so if the attendance is that high (in the east) it might not work as no one (except Utica) has a barn that big...and Utica's barn isn't a campus barn anyway.....

Nice idea, but what if we see a marathon final in the girls (1st game)?? That may back up the men's final to a very late hour.

Russell, are those figures attendance or tickets sold? That can certainly account for how the arena looks.
