Neither Rockett Arena or Hetland Arena have SOG boards (or shot clocks, or whatever you call them). No way of knowing unless the announcers say something.

Fitchburg State beats UMass Dartmouth 4-3, in double overtime.

              Goalscorers:
              FIT: Thomas McAleer (10, 13:24 of 1st; 11, 8:50 of 2nd OT), Kevin McCready (14, 17:54 of 1st), Trevor Lawler (8, 8:26 of 2nd)
              UMD: Ryan Hurd (5, 7:54 of 1st), Rob Dudley (10, 2:35 of 2nd), Jason Stahl (15, 7:35 of 2nd)

              Goaltenders:
              FIT: Bobby Vorse (W, 7-6-1)
              UMD: Collin Tracy (L, 18-7-1)

              Power Play:
              FIT: 0/2
              UMD: 0/1

Under pressure in the Corsairs end, Thomas McAleer put the puck on goal from the goal line and banked it in off Collin Tracy's pads, through his five hole and in.

Fitchburg State improves to 17-9-1, and will take on Salem State on Saturday afternoon (2:00 PM) for the MASCAC Championship. UMass Dartmouth concludes their season with a record of 18-7-1.

You could say that, but yes. They may not be in the Prez PB HOF, but they're out there cheering for the team.

                  From the Salem News:

Vikings breathe sigh of relief, advance to MASCAC final
                  By Dan Harrison
staff writer The Salem News Fri Mar 04, 2011, 05:58 AM EST

SALEM — It certainly wasn't the prettiest playoff win in the annals of Salem State ice hockey, but when it comes to the do-or-die nature of the MASCAC tournament, you get no credit for style points.

Looking lackadaisical throughout most of the first two periods in their semifinal bout with Westfield State, Salem State found inspiration on the penalty kill, notching a pair of shorthanded goals before dispatching the Owls 3-2 in overtime in one of the wilder games played at Rockett Arena this winter.

Holding a one-goal lead with 90 seconds left in the third period, Salem State had the opportunity to deliver the knockout punch when Westfield State picked up a double-minor, giving the Vikings an advantage for the rest of regulation. Coach Will O'Neill opted to keep it safe and play for possession instead of trying to score and an unforced error by the Salem State defense allowed Vince Perrault to walk in alone and beat netminder James LaCour far side with just 17.6 seconds remaining.

The Vikings began the overtime with two minutes and 30 seconds left of power play to work with but managed only three shots before Westfield (6-19-2) regained equal strength. Less than a minute later Giancarlo Capodanno made a spectacular rush into the Owls zone and with a great back-handed feed found Michael Genovese in front of net and the senior buried the puck home for the win.

"That was a really exciting win for us. Both teams put on a lot of pressure the entire game," explained O'Neill, whose Vikings (18-6-2) will advance to face Fitchburg State at home (tomorrow at 2 p.m.) after the Falcons defeated UMass Dartmouth, 4-3, last night in double overtime.

"An unforced error in our end turned into a goal and that was a great play by (Perrault). But credit my guys, they got their composure back and we were able to get the puck to the cage and make a swipe at," said O'Neill.

Nine penalties had the Salem State offense out of rhythm all game long and while the penalty kill unit did give up a goal when Jason Nelson tipped home a Jimmy Alexander pass, the man-down team was very opportunistic and the only reason the Vikings were ahead at the end of the game.

Josh Franklin tipped a D-to-D pass into the neutral zone and started bearing down uncontested on Westfield goalie Ray Monroe. Having beaten him twice over the shoulder in the teams' last meeting, Franklin waited for Monroe to dip down and then fired a laser into the top right corner of the net.

Franklin talked about what the win meant to the team.

"Obviously we were a little solemn in the locker room (before overtime), but we picked ourselves up," noted Franklin. "We have a bunch of character. We have that group mentality where everyone is working towards the same thing. We all badly want to win"

The second short-handed goal for the Vikings came in the second period when Kyle Phelan corraled a loose puck and charged the length of the ice before sending a perfect mid-air pass to Genovese, who then converted on the one-timer.

"They've had success getting shorthanded goals all season long, they have a dangerous penalty kill," noted Westfield State coach Bob Miele. "Unfortunately for us, they were able to create some opportunities."

James LaCour stopped 28 of 30 shots he faced and did an excellent job of keeping Salem State on top in the second period and for most of the third.
