  • Semi-OT: NYT article on helmets in sports

Kind of interesting that women's lacrosse, which is more aptly described as freeze tag with sticks but I digress, is resisting the implementation of helmets, using the increased violence in hockey (when the NHL mandated helmets) and football (when facemasks got bigger) as examples of what they hope to avoid by not using helmets.

The logic makes some sense, as do the counter arguments of the "THINK OF THE CHILDREN" crowd (ok, ok, it's more of the "all concussions are bad and should be prevented above all else" crowd).

Best part is the line about how even if football and/or hockey wanted to revert, they probably couldn't, both from a legal perspective and an actual injury one.
