Re: CC vs DU 2.4/5 Let's get it started!

I'm going to be in New England next weekend to see Northeastern, Yale, and of course the Beanpot, so I will not be attending either of these games. However, since the Friday game is on TV, I plan to find a bar where I can watch it after the NU/ Merrimack game!

CC will win Friday night at home, but I'm pretty sure they will lay an egg Saturday, as usual, therefore allowing the Gold Pan to stay with DU.

I have to say that from an outsider's perspective, this might be the best coaching job Gwoz has ever done. I can't get over how much DU lost after last season, yet they are a better TEAM this year. They seem to be working harder from shift to shift, game to game, and are obviously playing extremely well. I like the way they have played so far, and I believe given the schedules the rest of the way, that they have to be the favorite to win the MacNaughton at this point.

Even though CC has been inconsistent, they are well ahead of where most of us thought this young team would be. As usual, they are blindingly fast. They have proven that they can beat anyone on a given night (wins against Denver, UNO, UND), but we are waiting to see some consistent play from night to night, which so far has not happened.

Hockey in Colorado is once again looking good.

For those that don't know, CC starting goaltender Joe Howe was injured Saturday night and taken out of the game. I have not heard anything regarding his status for this coming weekend.

I am sure all fans know Jaden Schwartz is still out with an injury and will not play this weekend.

Excited to watch both games, should be a blast as always.

I doubt Howe will be ready. He was rolling around on the ice like a soccer player after the hit (didn't see the actual hit, was watching the play in the corner) but he had to be helped off the ice and couldn't put any weight on it as he was going down the tunnel. Tough break for CC. Hope they find a way to beat Denver anyway.

Who will play in place of Howe? Jaden Schwartz was a huge loss for CC. It would have been a great race between him and Jason Zucker for WCHA Rookie/Player of the Year. Even with DU having a bye week last weekend, Jay Z still leads the WCHA in scoring and goals with 24 points and 17 goals. Drew Shore and Anthony Maiani are tied for 6th in scoring with 19 points. Also Senior Captain Kyle Ostrow is on a tear lately and is playing his best hockey as a Pio. I would assume Gwoz will continue to go with the goalie rotation this weekend. During the UAA series two weekend ago he had Murray play Friday and Brittain on Saturday. Don't know if he will keep the order of the rotation the same but I see both goalies getting a game this weekend.

Anything less than a DU SWEEP this weekend will be unacceptable.

Should be an update on Howe later today. If CC has any chance to make it to the post season they need him in the line-up. Any news on Chris Knowlton? I'm hoping Gwoz is done with the rotation and is ready to give Sam the full time job--he's clearly the better keeper and plays better when he works both nights. Gwoz knows that Adam can step up if Sam gets hurt. Once we get to tourney time we're not going to rotate--so why do it going down the stretch?

I went down to the Springs to catch the game Saturday. The Sioux are super talented and have tons of depth. Frattin, Gregiore and Kristo played fantastic hockey. They have tons of talent but have been struggling with consistency. Dell played fine but only saw something like 20 shots and half of them were in the third when it didn't matter. Lots of teams--really any team that makes the tourney could run the table. UND has to be considered a favorite at this point. The Badgers are another one lurking.

Haven't heard a thing on Knowlton and there is nothing about DU in today's Denver Post. Gwoz's press conference is tomorrow at 12 PM MT on Pioneer Vision for free at www.denverpioneers.com. I would expect him to address Knowlton as well as the goalies at that time. Mermis has done a nice job filling infor Knowlton.

DU has 2 games in hand on UND who is idle this coming weekend. A DU sweep against CC would give DU a 3 point lead in the WCHA with 8 games left for each team. Four big WCHA points and the Gold Pan on the line this weekend against CC.

That's putting a lot of pressure on this weekend for DU. I see CC taking at least a point if not more this weekend.

I'm hoping for a couple of 9-2 repeats from earlier this year

Freshman Josh Thorimbert (from Calgary) would be in goal if Joe Howe is not able to go. Josh has played well, but he just turned 18 in October so he is good, just very young.

I don't think there has been a sweep in this series since 2006.

Much as I'd love to see DU sweep, the intensity of the rivalry usually suggests a mixed result.
