  • Quinnipiac Mens's Hockey Report 12/5/10

Sorry for all those interested, will try to post more in the future.

The Quinnipiac Men’s Hockey Team (7-8-2) overall (5-4-0) in the ECAC conference, good enough for a tie for 5th with Union, are trying to right some wrongs in their ship. The team ended their recent push of games with a four game losing streak, with a 3-0 loss to Princeton, 5-2 loss to Massachusetts, 6-4 loss to St. Lawrence, and a 5-3 loss to Clarkson.

The biggest issue with this team right now is their goaltending issue, deciding on whether to go with goaltender Dan Clark (3-1) or Eric Hartzell (4-1). When Clark starts a game, he always starts off strong, yet seems to give up a few easy goals and then it all goes downhill from there. When Hartzell gets the start, the team plays better in front of him, but not well enough to secure a win. The sad fact is that this team has the talent, but seems as if they do not know what to do with it.

Brothers Kellen and Connor Jones look to add offensive power to the Bobcats, which they do well along with Captain Scott Zurevinski. But recently, coach Rand Pecknold has split the big three apart to try to get secondary scoring, but it seems that these three should be put together and kept that way as it will always ensure an offensive chance or goal. The only time these three are together are during a powerplay, which has been less than stellar for this squad. The team tries to go for the over the top fancy plays instead of simple shots from the point and putting men in front for rebounds. The fact is that Quinnipiac needs to put bigger bodies in front and unload from the point.
