I think almost everyone agrees on the top 2 and probably 9 and 10, but sorting out 3-8 is tricky at best. Norwich lost to Plattsburgh and Trinity but beat Amherst who had beaten Trinity decisively and then tied them; Elmira lost to Norwich, who lost to Plattsburgh and Trinity and were then beaten by Elmira; Midd is 6-0, but has yet to play any of the big guns. This weekend I saw Norwich twice and Elmira, Plattsburgh, Trinity and Amherst once each. Norwich probably skates the best team right now. I am less afraid of Plattsburgh and more respectful of Trinity and Elmira; Amherst is an enigma. The New Year's tournament in Plattsburgh should be worth the trip!

Actually, I don't agree with Point being ranked and I don't understand why everyone is ranking them - they lost to Lake Forest and got outshot 2:1. From what I heard, Lake Forest dominated the game. And Lake Forest has two losses - against River Falls who is a top team in the country. All the teams that are ranked should have losses to ONLY ranked teams - so that should throw Gustavus out of the mix with their St. Thomas loss. Lets be consistent in how we rank teams.

Have you posted a poll? I gather you feel Lake Forest deserves to be ranked, but what other western team are you adding in here?

Mathematically, that's not always possible. Consider two teams that have only lost to each other -- which one do you rank tenth and which gets left off?

Not to mention that it rewards teams with the softest schedules, i.e. if you don't play them you can't lose to them...

AND, if D1 were to follow this approach, NO teams would be ranked!

I'm not sure there should be another Western team outside of Lake Forest because they all beat up on eachother and are very inconsistent. I would've liked to say my Bulldogs but then they go and lose to CUW!

The problem (?) with the West is that there is a huge inconsistency within play. It seems like the Eastern teams that are good stay good and don't drop bad games. Again, just my opinion, I'm sure and I know it's happened. But based on the last few years, the top Eastern teams rarely lose to an unranked team. So far this year, the top Western teams have dropped games to unranked teams like St. Thomas, Oswego, CUW, Lake Forest .... I don't know if that means there's more parity in the West or the Eastern teams are better equipped at handling pressure and staying consistent.

I'd prefer to do my poll East and West.

                              East:
                              1. RIT
                              2. Plattsburgh
                              3. Norwich
                              4. Amherst
                              5. Middlebury
                              6. Trinity
                              7. Elmira
                              8. Manhattanville (interchangeable with #9)
                              9. NEC (interchangeable with #8)
                              10. Hamilton/Bowdoin

                              West:
                              1. UWRF
                              2. Lake Forest

Clearly the Western teams beating up on each other last year contributed to the 5-2 split, even with a Western host. However, given what has transpired so far out East, how can you fault the West for everyone beating everyone when the same thing IS happening this year out East?
