  • Atlantic Hockey Commish is now CHA Women's Commish Too

Interesting development. Might this be a lead in to Altantic Hockey adding women's hockey and merging with the CHA (since the CHA is basically Atlantic Hockey teams)?

    DeGregorio Tabbed as CHA Commissioner
Compiled by USCHO Staff from wire reports and press releases

Sept. 9 — Robert M. DeGregorio Jr., already the commissioner for Atlantic Hockey, will add the same duties for the CHA women’s league.
Atlantic Hockey commissioner Robert M. DeGregorio is adding the CHA women's league to his resume

“We want to place the management of our league in the hands of an experienced leader,” Niagara athletic director Ed McLaughlin said in a statement. “Commissioner DeGregorio is known throughout the hockey community and he has the management experience to lead and grow our league into the future.”

The CHA is one of four leagues in Division I women’s hockey.

“I am very excited about this new opportunity,” DeGregorio said. “The CHA is very competitive and it will be an honor to be associated with this very successful group of institutions.”

Also, David Rourke was named CHA director of media relations and Eugene Binda was named supervisor of officials.--

Interesting development...this def has some legs.

My question would be... has everyone been "screeched in" and kissed the Cod?

Mercyhurst, Niagara, and Robert Morris are now all in AHA and CHA women. And maybe RIT will end up in the CHA when they move to D1.

      Could be interesting

Besdes RIT in the ECAC West there is Holy Cross in the ECAC East, Sacred Heart is listed as a D1 Independant while Connecticut is in Hockey East. The very interesting part could be Syracuse which along with Wayne State does not have a Men's team. Wayne State is unlikely to get one again while Syracuse would then have a natural fit if they added one. Hopefully there will be movement to bring all these programs together in both Men's and Women's hockey.

Just trying to point out that the same schools that are in Men's Atlantic Hockey are split up throughout Women's Hockey leagues and that bringing a few more in could make the Men's and Women's leagues almost the same teamwise.

Already 3/5 of the CHA have men's teams in AHA, and the other two don't have men's teams at all. A merger has made sense ever since RoMo and Niagara agreed to join the AHA, but everyone official seems to be avoiding any talk of it.

I can't see UConn leaving Hockey East, but I've long been puzzled why Holy Cross plays down to D-III and why Sacred Heart seems content to remain independent. Maybe a CHA with an autobid would be more tempting for them? Or a merged league where their women's teams could compete regularly against the same schools their men's teams face?
