If Bennett can have the same impact as Gauthier and Rakhshani, #9 should be assigned to California bred Pioneers in the future.

DU received a ton of props this weekend from TSN covering the NHL Draft. Needless to say Stastny, Carle and Bozak have paved DU's street cred in the NHL. Bozak's success in Toronto may have been the most important piece of the puzzle.

Now that the draft is over, the next thing on the horizon is the NHL development camps.

The Bruins and Isles camps are scheduled for July 6-10.
Rakhshani(Isles) is the only senior who signed after the season. Cheverie, Colborne and Wiercioch should be at their camps.

But what about Gifford, Glasser, and Ruegsegger? All were drafted, but haven't heard anything since the season was over. Vossberg wants to be a doctor: Brookwell a businessman.Amateur tryouts, ECHL, AHL, CHL,....???? Or grad school, law school, seminary????

A team that couldn't do the easiest thing in hockey (beat St. Cloud in the NCAA's) isn't likely to knock off Denver, especially not in Denver.

DU will likely be missing some of its top players for that series vs NMU.

Zucker, Bennett, D.Shore, and perhaps even Wrenn and Brittian could all be involved in the World Junior Tourney, although two or three players is more likely.

Don't miss the audio presentation link at the bottom of the article. It's one of the best half hours I've spent in a while, listening to how these college hockey people sell the game to top prospects.

====>WAC considers adding University of Denver, even without football
                            By Irv Moss

Western Athletic Conference commissioner Karl Benson issued a statement Tuesday saying that his league will operate with eight members through the 2012 season.

Benson said the decision by the league's board of governors includes all sports, including an option of adding a nonfootball program to the league.

"The University of Denver is a school we have evaluated and considered," Benson said. "One of the options we have looked at has been the admission of a nonfootball member. Any further discussions have been delayed now until at least July 1, 2012."

DU does not have a football program and competes in basketball in the Sun Belt Conference.

"There are several institutions without football in the Mountain and Pacific time zones that we could consider," Benson said.<====

Current members of the WAC after Boise State move to Mountain West:
                                Fresno St.
                                Hawaii
                                Idaho
                                Louisiana. Tech
                                New Mexico St.
                                Utah St.
                                San Jose St.
                                Nevada

Louisiana Tech is as much out of place here as DU is in the Sun Belt.
DU would still be flying to almost all conference games. Utah State or New Mexico State could be the exceptions.

                                Sports
Excluding lacrosse and skiing the DU women participate in the same sports as the WAC. WAC also has cross country, track and field, and softball for women. Women's soccer and lacrosse currently play in the Mountain
Pacific Sports Federation(MPSF); skiing in the RMISA.

On the men's side excluding hockey, lacrosse and skiing--WCHA, ECAC and RMISA respectively. The WAC does not have Men's swimming and diving or soccer. DU's Men's soccer plays in the MPSF. Football, baseball, cross country and track and field are also sponsored by the WAC.

Not a perfect fit, but better than the SUn Belt geographically. The DU administration might be concerned about the academic reputatiion of the member schools.
Geographically the Mountain West is probably the best fit.
Academically is West Coast Conference which is a non-football group is probably the best.
                                By sport, probably the WAC.

                                MOUNTAIN WEST
                                Air Force
                                BYU
                                Colo St
                                New Mexico
                                Utah
                                Wyoming

                                Gonzaga
                                St. Mary's (CA)
                                U of San Diego

                                Pepperdine

Another alternatve could be the Big Sky Conference which in my opinion is probably the least attractive.
