DG is right. We can't be sitting around watching the paint dry on this one. The college hockey world is about to change, big time, and we have to be positioned ahead of the curve. I'm hoping Peg is on the blower trying to figure out the best possible future for DU. I'm badly conflicted here, a Big Ten football fan who would prefer they take their hockey conference and shove it.

        Much ado about nothing.

There was a time when a BTHC would have been something. You look back over the last 25 years and there was never a time when Big 10 teams represented less than 25% of the field. Through the late '80's and all the '90's, when 12 teams made up the field, there were always three, and sometimes four, Big 10 teams in the field.

When it expanded to 16 teams, four Big 10 teams became the norm, and once they even had 5 make it.

You know that in a 6 team league that isn't going to happen anymore.

Furthermore, recently the Big 10 has struggled to get 2 teams in the field of 16.

The Big 10 may be forced to form a BTHC just to get the auto bid, if things continue.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.

Seth Jones, Dakota Mermis and Quentin Shore all made the National U-17 Team. Seth is the younger brother of DU frosh Justin Jones. DU recruit Tyler Pham is not on the team.

Did we get Justin Jones in the hopes of getting Seth? And the same kind of thing with the the Mermis brothers?

As a guy with considerable experience with "package deals," I'm flashing on the scene from "Animal House" where Mandy Pepperidge, or another of the mindless bimbos, refers to "Flounder" and "Pony" as "the wimp and the blimp."

Almost certainly. DU learned from the Testwuide experiment...

Rakhshani with a couple of "twitvids" at the Isles rookie camp. They play the Bruins rookies tonight in Boston.

Wiercioch on the roster for Ottawa's Training Camp. If Cowen, age 19, doesn't make it, he goes back to the WHL. Patrick and BU's Gryba would go to Binghamton.
If you haven't checked out Patrick's rookie camp blog, you should.

The reason why these "package deals" seem to be happening all of a sudden is that around four years ago or so the NCAA changed some rules that allowed players that were exceptional students to receive academic scholarships. Couple that with financial aid and its possible to bring in less talented siblings.

The NCAA also allows players who graduate in three years to attend grad school at another institution without sitting out a year. The DU Ski Team has utilized this rule with positive results.

Colborne did not come back after getting elbowed.
