Re: 2010-11 Schedules
As of right now, the coaches are planning on still having two rounds of playoffs.
Looking at the matchups and the schedule that was leaked from NMU, I can see two options that could/would happen:
1) Keep the two rounds as is. First rounds are: 11 at 6, 10 at 7, 9 at 8 home sites. One through five get a first round bye. Second round remains 8 at 1, 7 at 2, 6 at 3, 5 at 4. Four teams go to the Joe.
2) Eliminate the first round, go to one round, and make the 11th place team sit home. 10 at 1, 9 at 2, etc. Five teams advance with a play-in game between 4 v 5 on Thursday. The WCHA Final Five format.
3) Eliminate the first round, go to one round, and make teams 9 through 11 sit home. 8 at 1, 7 at 2, etc. Four teams advance to the format as is.
I can see the CCHA, in an effort to minimize the schedule disruptions and to maximize getting teams to the Joe going with the first option. I feel it's pretty shi**y to the fifth place team, as they lose out of any home games in the playoffs to try and get some extra revenue. I don't see the CCHA making their top team sit out for two weeks between the end of league play and the Joe.
The other thing, is that non-conference agreements are already in place for the CCHA teams, so the only thing that can change are the league games. Which isn't too hard until you're shoehorning Tuesday games into the schedule (see whenever it was that they dropped the Super Six format for two playoff rounds).
