No offense, but what are you trying to say here? Not the cause of what?

I am not quite sure why everyone is hating on Frattin for his comments that he was trying to fire up his team with a big hit? Hitting someone as hard as you can is legal and is something many players try to do. If he wouldn't have left his feet there wouldn't have even been a penalty. He left his feet which is illegal and he got the suspension. But hitting someone hard is not a penalty.

UND is a very physical team year in and year out. This years team is one of the most physical they have had in recent years. Brad Malone had 10 hits in the 1st period alone on sunday. Most players don't even get 10 shifts a period. Forechecking, hitting, and causing turnovers in the offensive zone is their whole gameplan and they are very good at it. This is why teams have such a hard time trying to break the puck out against UND this year. By the third period those defenseman that have to go back and retrieve the puck have already mentally lost the battle.

In no way am I glad a player suffered a concusion but there is a very physical side to the game of hockey. It's not all just fast skating, pretty passes and goal scoring.

Concussive trauma occurs from the brain impacting the inner region of the skull. A body moving forward at a rate of speed and suddenly restrained or caused to move opposite prior velocity will cause the brain to impact the skull regardless of how the body is stopped.

If you are suddenly restrained at your chest, your head continues forward until the muscles in your neck/back/shoulders react to stop. Your brain inside your skull has no such muscle or restraint. So even if your head is never "contacted", the rest of your body affects it's travel.

So UMTC played absolutely no hockey this season?

If Wehrs got up right away the refs may have only given a 2 minute charge, this is true. But that doesn't make it right. Reffing 101, do not officiate off of end result. Only the action.

All in all, what should have happened did. You can argue him being out for the game, but whatever. There was no horrible injustice here.

Most of us diehard Gopher fans aren't too proud to say that aside from a few games throughout the year, no they did not.

Nice analysis of the situation but you may have erred when you stated he left his feet. From still photos of the incident Frattin was moving very fast and neither player appeared to have left their feet until after the initial hit was made.

So it appears that Frattin may have been penalized and suspended for a legal hit. What next give out penalties for skating too fast?

Socal - please dont continue to argue legality, it was at least an obvious charge and a reasonable person could argue for more. Clearly any homerism on this by us siouxfans is just adding fuel to the fire.

lord k did not have a nice analysis of the situation, and you seem to misunderstand it as well.

Matt got a penalty for contact to the head. Nothing about that penalty requires one to leave their feet, at least not unless Joe Finley is the victim.

The league appears to have suspended Frattin due to the severity of the blow, the contact to the head, and possibly the nature of the injury. Whether Frattin did or did not leave his feet is meaningless. The hit warranted the penalty and suspension that has been levied, and no amount of frame by frame analysis of the Frattin Zapruder film will change that. Let it go.
That community is already in the process of dissolution where each man begins to eye his neighbor as a possible enemy, where non-conformity with the accepted creed, political as well as religious, is a mark of disaffection; where denunciation, without specification or backing, takes the place of evidence; where orthodoxy chokes freedom of dissent; where faith in the eventual supremacy of reason has become so timid that we dare not enter our convictions in the open lists, to win or lose.
