once again IMHO

a likely split in the Tech program. it doesn't fall into a local / non local thing. its more an alignment of pro Russell / anti Russell groups. although that isn't the only issue. I guess we all know what side I fall on (I sit under a "russell's terriers banner). so take what I say with a shaker of salt. Chris Tok is a very nice guy and I wish him all the best. perhaps, he, was, uh, not entirely onboard with the program. perhaps, Randy McKay, also a great guy and a wonderful asset for our community, also is not? Pat Mikesch not being onboard I can't imagine.

Well I've said it before, it is not that we need to replace Tok, it's that we need to replace and add to his duties. I am wholeheartedly in favor of everyone being on the same sheet of paper. There cannot be two bosses. However, the boss must be big enough to take the best from wherever he finds it and use that to further the program. Our recruiting needs to get better, that's for sure, and the only way we are going to improve it is to outwork the other teams at finding guys and selling the program.
I would also add we need someone who can recruit in Nationally, not someone who is tied to the local community, there is a lot of good hockey out in the world, better than the CC for the most part.I say you find someone from outside.

Well I've said it before, it is not that we need to replace Tok, it's that we need to replace and add to his duties. I am wholeheartedly in favor of everyone being on the same sheet of paper. Regarding selling the program. I've wondered how well can a coach, who is an alumni of a rival school, who is possibly recruiting the same player, really sell the program? I'm sure there are some that can, but it just seems like an alum is going to be able to be much more passionate about selling the program.

Yeah, some of those things might be perceived negatively to varying degrees, I suppose. I wondered if you were only talking about the local players they've recruited (and not) to play. Local recruiting over the last 50 years has been somewhere between lazy and criminally negligent. It's a shame that in the fairly recent past, many of Calumet's best players (including at least one NHL draftee) have gone elsewhere. I'm hoping Johnson signs up.

I suppose I should clarify. I think it's nice to have local players, and I know there is certainly a proud hockey history at all levels in the Keweenaw (more-so than any other part of Michigan, in my estimation). There are definitely some talented guys that Tech probably allowed to slip out of town, and some that they did land one way or another. Peter Rouleau was one of the reasons I started to seriously follow Tech hockey (his hatty in that 9-0 shellacking of UAA a few years ago was my first game with the pep band ).

So I'm not pooh-poohing local players or discouraging our coaches from recruiting them. If they show talent and have a legit shot at being good college players, then by all means they should be targeted, signed, and properly seasoned with some time in a serious junior league. Tech should have the inside track on those guys and should be getting them. At the same time though, the Keweenaw is not Minnesota and does not have a seemingly endless supply of kids who are good enough to play D1 college hockey. Unless you're the pre-2000 Gophers, success is built on players from around the map.

Well, kindergarten is mostly about developing social skills, and last I checked she's too good at socializing and not good enough at applying herself.

I didn't learn how to nap until I got to college. My coloring could use some work, I can write my name but I don't expect anyone else to seriously be able to read it, I still don't talk all that well, and I use to know how to tie my shoes, but I haven't done it in so long I'm not all that sure I still remember how.

Just checked. I can still tie my shoes.
