How many times are you allowed to take the SAT's by the way?
My recollection is as often as you want, and only the best score counts, but I'll defer to anyone with more recent experience.

We went over this last summer. My recollection is that because JL is from Ontario, he could not just sign with a Quebec team. IIRC, Sudbury owned (still owns?) his rights. Again, my memory may be faulty with the exception of the fact that we discussed this ad nauseum when JL appeared on a Gatineau roster in a summer tourney.

Word from Troy - shots fired at Peoples and Burdett (outside the Field House). Stay indoors if you're near campus.

EDIT: Not outside the Field House - armed robbery on Hoosick Street and the perp is at large. RPI on lockdown. http://www.timesunion.com/AspStories...storyID=918857

Keep an open mind. Just don't be so open-minded that your brain falls out.

As I recall, the fact that he didn't go to Gatineau was purely JL's decision; I think at this point he has little to no value to Sudbury and they'd basically give up his rights for pretty much nothing. It was more than just him showing up on a Gatineau roster; as I recall JL made a somewhat formal declination of Gatineau's offer (leading to interesting reaction from the Gatineau fans).

Based on when I took the SATs four years ago, you are correct.

When I took the SAT we were handed a stone tablet and had to inscribe out answers with a small chisel. I did well however since I always had fast hands.

Which score(s) to count is up to the school. For a hockey player I'm sure they'll be more than happy to just look at the highest score. I believe the highest score is what gets reported to U.S. News, etc. so in the case of a borderline hockey player applicant, I would think that the highest score is all they would worry about.

I also believe that you may only be allowed to take the SATs three times in twelve months. Not sure on that one thought.

What about a good defensive forward or a defensive defenseman? I think that Seth needs to fill some holes. Firepower is good but......
JL is an asset no doubt about it.
Any word on what lies ahead for the engineers when it come to a lunch pail player? I am sure as the board discusses JL and his likes, Seth is looking for that key role player. Anyone know who he is?

I suspect that both G. Burgdoerfer and Tinordi are mainly defensive forwards. How good either is, I don't know. As to three defensemen that are supposed to be coming next year (Bailen, Leboeuf and Quinn), they all are supposed to be good on both ends of the ice. How good, we will also see.

Higgs apparently plays a similar game to Watts. Again, we will see.

Chris Heisenberg is reporting that Clarkson has signed Patrick Koudys's defensive partner, Luke Juha, who someone once reported that we were after. I don't know if we actually were.

Edit: And Tyler Tosunian of Pembroke, whose name also recently came up, but not in regards to RPI having any interest, his signed with Bemidji.

Re a replacement for Montgomery: how about Mark Jooris?

My gut feeling is that SA knew for quite a while that Monty was leaving or at least looking to leave. This would explain why we apparently had no interest in Josh Jooris as it would have created a bit of an awkward situation. Mark has shown an ability to coach in his one season in Burlington, but it isn't clear how he would like being on the recruiting trail. Also, he is quite a bit older than SA.

Just a thought, not based on any knowledge about what is going on.

With regards to Monty. I wish him the best of luck. From all reports he was a big part of the uptick in talent coming to Troy and he will be missed. I met him a couple of times and he was always cordial.

As far as a replacement goes I would think that if Kevin Broad wanted the Job and wasn`t offered it he will move on. Weather he wants it I have no idea. Your bringing up Jooris is an interesting possibility. I would like to see someone with some years of Head coaching experience at a high level that is no longer itching to be the head coach. I feel that all the youth in the coaching offices is fine but an older, experienced guy would add to the staff and success of the program.

I think it is very difficult to recruit very good defensive forwards. The problem is that anyone who is good enough to be an effective defensive forward at the D1 level is usually good enough to be at least a decent scoring threat at the Junior A level. Consequently, you don't get guys who are defensive specialists, developing that skill set for their junior teams.

This is why I've become so optimistic on Tinordi; he started out as a purely defensive forward and in the second half of the year really blossomed into a nice two-way player (apparently). Similar things happened with Andrew Lord (although he never seemed to find his niche for RPI; seemed perpetually stuck somewhere between a skilled power forward and lock-down winger, never really excelling at either role).
