I don't understand that either, Hawk. The place has 1900 seats and is supposed to have standing room for 600, for a total capacity of 2500. The only thing I can guess is that the fire marshal imposes strict limits on number of tickets sold. .
I also always figure there's a limit on what can be reported... even if there are more people in the arena in reality.
Middlebury considers a sellout 2600 people I think, though it has fluctuated a little bit (I vaguely remember 2500 listed as a sellout at one point). But I'll never forget this game:
2913 at Kenyon against Williams, and rumor was that there were really a couple hundred more than that. I've got to imagine someone took note of how high that was over capacity.
I remember hearing that night that there were well over 1000 students in the rink, more than half the student body. And I'll never forget the absolute chaos when Middlebury scored that OT goal to win the game.

Just curious but saw that the NESCAC finals had 2,300 fans and was considered sold out. The Bowdoin rink is about the same size as both Middlebury and Norwich which allow a couple hundered more fans. I have been to Sid J. Watson and cann't believe that they don't allow a few more fans to attend. Any comments?
Hawk, you have discovered what I have suspected for a while these numbers are bogus used to help with recruiting I have been to several games where I know the number reported is not factual

Thanks for the joke, that's funny! I'm still laughing!

There often is a discrepency between the number of tickets sold, and the number of people who show up at the gate. (The "Just because I'm here to watch Trinity, doesn't mean I want to watch Bowdoin" syndrome).
Add to that the seats being used by 2 teams watching the other semi-final, confernece officials, and other "official" guests, and it seems reasonable to me that the capacity and gate admission numbers are in conflict.

re: bowdoin attendance... they had to have gone with tickets sold... no turnstiles, no torn ticket stubs, etc. heading into the rink (not that any of us would expect that)... capacity is 1900... i assume that is actual seats, not including the (ample) standing room available...

Actually attendance was counted separately for the 2 Saturday semifinal games: 2300 for Bowdoin-Hamilton and 550 for Middlebury-Trinity.
Great game by both teams - and, yes, your team is wonderful but today's results suggest that they are only marginally better than Bowdoin and that Bowdoin can skate with the Panthers when they stay out of the penalty box (a season-long problem that really bit Bowdoin today, especially in the early going). Bowdoin has a superb team and that yawning talent and speed gap exist more in your mind than on the ice.
Bowdoin played an inspired game, and yes they could have won it. I watched the game closely, when Drolet went out and when Bowdoin killed the 5 on 3 the game changed, that's hockey. It's a game of momentum. D3 you know little about hockey, so I should not even respond, but if you are close to the NESCAC you would know that on that big Bowdoin roster there are many good players, many question whether or not the best lineup actually plays. I have heard this for years and watching Bowdoin this weekend, led me to believe if that's true Bowdoin would be ordering their rings. There were some weak guys out there for Bowdoin, and when they were out there it was certain Bowdoin wouldn't score. I will give you a hint they were big, they run around alot, they don't catch or make passes and they are not ever going to score. They did play inspired hockey. Hardy, may have been the best player on the ice. Sisson, McCormick, Weiniger, Milley, Lalor, and Blossom (in the final) and Rossi were terrific. It was a great game, you have a tough draw with Oswego, I want be there but I assume you will. Enjoy the game, Plattsburgh will test Middlebury.

You're in no position to offer any judgment on relative knowledge of hockey since you believe that Bowdoin has a secret cache of really great nameless players that the coach chooses not to play just for the hell of it . .
Who cares if he does or doesn't I am off to watch Plattsburgh Middlebury, and see how we match up against teams from the West. Another ring would be nice, how many has Bowdoin won?
Great stuff, Willie, even though painful for a Bowdoin fan!! Dubuc's got some quick hands and Charlie Townsend really did manage to hit that small spot in the upper left hand corner of the net that was open.
Well, I'm going to do a farewell tour of upstate New York, hellholes like Plattsburgh. Fred Armisen as Gov. Paterson
